you dont need a brake light get veg to check agian, we never asked for them when i was at corby and spenders dont either.
but you do have to have a speedo dose`nt need to work as the test cant test it but one needs to be fitted.

the mot rule book is a funny old thing on a few occasions it contradicts its self.

all you need is
speedo
horn
and of course good tyres, number plate ect.

Why would you not want a speedo for road riding?

Sorry Liam, you are wrong on the speedo...I've been running a bike for the last 8 years without a speedo and have been to various different MOT stations and you are allowed to run like that.

It seems that the rules can be read in way to many variants.

My suggestion is that if your going to run a day time MOT then go the place that is going to pass it, ask them what they expect on the bike to pass the Day Time MOT and leave it at that.  It may be a case that you go to another station around the corner and they will give you totally different and conflicting advice, just go back to the tester that you originally sought advice from.

i'm from l'boro too, think i've heard of u, ur name sean, real big fatboy racer. Twiggers say, horn, brake light (no slicks sean as they aint road legal) speedo dont have to work, if u have any other lights on the bike they have to work, may try running mine with the race fairing on !!!!

was going to pm you but thought it better to tell everyone that wants to know what the definitive daytime MOT is, according to my interpretation.

There is no 'Daytime MOT' as such. But...........
If a motorcycle is presented for MOT test with ALL lamps removed, painted over or masked, the lighting inspection does not apply and the owner will be issued with an advisory notice stating that vehicle is only to be used during daylight hours / not used at times of reduced visibility. This wording doesn't even appear on the MOT certificate, just on the VT32 (advisory notice) which you are entitled to throw away!

Therefore a trackday bike will only require a single tone horn, regulation size numberplate and all the normal trackday cycle parts in proper order. (tyres etc etc)

Even a race can with 'not for road use' will pass if the wording is covered over, as long as the sound is not excessive (testers discretion).

Speedo is not part of the MOT either so you can't fail on that account.

For those that disagree, bear in mind that I passed my MOT testers course 4 months ago and it was the exact questions you've posted on here that I asked the VOSA examiner on my course as I wanted a difinitive answer as I usually run a trackbike on the road without lights. :tongue3:

For those of you darn sarf who want to get your trackbikes through an MOT, give us a shout.  :icon_thumleft: www.mhmotorcycles.co.uk
