I thought all you needed was the brake light.

If you have any ohter running gear it has to be working, so if you have a horn button it has to beep, if you have indicator switch then you have to have indicators etc, you get the picture.

nope you deff dont need a brake light ,i had a supermoto and got that passed for a day time mot, they passed mine and they said the following(rear reflector, working horn, speedo)as for the indicators if you have the switches on the bars then you need them but if you have taken the switches off then bobs your uncle, end of story. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

as ive said before , my mate does mot's for bikes ......... he said the way he reads the rules you need , brake light .horn and a number plate ........ but the rules can be read diffrent ways by diff ppl . they do seem to have some play in the wording .the best thing would be to goto ur nearest mot place and ask how they read the rules and go from ther ......... i would defo want a brake light just for piece of mind and to help on any insure case that came up ......... u can just imagine the hassle  ud have if u got rear ended and u had no brake light

Speedo is not part of the mot so they can't fail you if you haven't got one.
Single tone horn and proper numberplate are required.
Race can ok as long as not stamped 'not for road use' and not too noisy.
Interestingly enough, if it was stamped 'not for road use' and you put a bit of tape over the word 'not', the tester can pass it with an advise, rather than fail it.

This came straight from the horses mouth, the VOSA trainer, as I've just done my testers course.

You dont need a brake light. Remember the old flapping arm Albatross impression from the highway code?  You don't need indys or a brake light because there is always good old hand signals.
