I can't seem to get rid of my chicken strips on the front tyre. They are huge! I don't have them at all on the rear. Tyre pressures are always perfect too. It does feel pretty cranked over just getting the rear strips off, but I'm not sure how much further over I dare try it on the road. Is this large front strip normal on the road, or is it something to do with how crap I am cornering or my tyres? I have Conti sport attack tyres. Thanks.

For road riding

Chicken strips on the rear = pussy

Chicken strips on the front = safety

It just means that your not attacking corners like you can on a race track, which can only be a good thing.

Almost everyone will have some sort chicken strips on the front unless they track their bike.

Its fairly normal to have more left on the front than the rear.
Shouldnt worry about it.
The technical answer is "it depends how DEEP you go into a bend" or "How much you work the front end".
Its almost impossible to go thro here so I wont attempt it. Suffice it to say that the rest of the front CAN be used but it takes HUUUUGE confidence in the front end. (and a level of skill that defies a lot of ppl)
It also increases the chance of a spill on the road as if the rear "lets go" you can probably save it. The same cant be said of the front......

My advice? Keep the weight on the rear in bends and off the front.

I have about 5 mm of chicken strips on the back, not even looking at the front, but I manage to keep up with the people I ride with and have a good time at it as well, so it's all a load of tosh unless your looking at strips that are 3cm or larger, then your just a pussy.

No idea what mine are like, never really care what the front looks like. As long as the back looks  . Mind you i am currently on a 180 rear

What's the difference in rear tyre sizes? Is it easier to get rid of strips from a 190 (mine) or harder on a 180? The funny thing is, my m8 rides his new 10r pretty quick, but he still has fairly large strips front and rear. I reckon he must be just good on the brakes and slower in the bends. I do find myself to be way too early on the brakes sometimes....!

180/55 would be harder to get rid of than a 190/50 but a 190/55 would take the most lean to clean up to the edge. Your mate probably just has a point and squirt riding style or gets off the bike alot more to keep the bike more upright.

I have not really ridden on a 180 befor only running it at the moment as thats what it came with. Would not have it out of choice. just a confidence thing really.

I found the 190/55 slightly harder to get scrubbed all the way to the edge than the 190/50 on my 05 bike. I have about 1cm ish on each side of the front tyre left which I'd guess is pretty normal for road use. As has been said, unless you're a complete loon or a pro racer its unlikely you'll scrub the front to the edges on the road. (on purpose anyway)

ok, so what was the blue thing you ran over, i can only make out con...... ?

also my current tires are much worse than that, only driven motorway miles to work and back every day and the roads here have very few nice bends so my rear tire is a bit squared off too, but i am off to zandvoort next week and hope that will help a bit

Mine were exactly the same as that on my road bike.......
