Advice on Dumbells
« on: July 22, 2008, 07:32:41 PM »

Looking to buy some. Was gonna ask anyone that's into it what their advice is. I Only weigh 11 stone but quite strong. Not into body building or anything but want to try and build uppper body, mostly arms up a bit.

Was looking on e-bay and saw these but not sure what weight weights to get if you catch my drift? I only want to get one set of dumbells at this stage but don't want no cheap shite just decent "normal" weights and nothing too hard but not too easy either.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=TKO+SDS

Any advise appreciated.  :icon_thumleft:

gym is the way to go really otherwise the fumbells end up just sitting there, if u want to build size then go for high weights and low reps (try starting 20k each arm with about 5 reps, if its too easy increase untill you feel u r at about 95% of your limit at 5 reps) also make sure u r positioned correctly dont want to fuck up your back

was just going for what i usually use for short reps 5 - 10 and i am just a bit lighter than him.  I have never been in the military but i did play pro rugby for a couple of years in a past life but thats not gonna make a big difference

(oh and to make u laugh but perfectly true) i did underwater hockey and competition figure skating as well as a few other sports

mate take a look at the post previous  you can see i ain't no small bloke ? but 20 kg on proper dumbells at what 11 stone ? behave / maybe if your thowing the fuckers? get the exersize  right first ?i see down my gym lots of young guys who come in and grab big wieghts and think they can just get on and do it ? usually ending up with i.e injuries and bad form? then wonder why the fuck they never get any gains and shap?

weights is an art and a chemistry? not in and bang it ? takes forever trust me? i know  weighing in at a healthy 15 stone , and having lots of years in and around the gym life ? i see it every day?

did some one call  [whistle]

was curling 35kg dumbells last week Henas  [whistle] still haven't achieve the 200KG bench though  :-( will get there in the end  :tongue3:

my advice would be go to the gym but its not what your looking for...

I would just go for the cheapest weights / dumbells to be honest , because in a couple of months they will be door stops I guarantee it  :dontknow:
