Should I try a race shift pattern?

I'm going to be getting some new rearsets in the near future and have been looking at getting some in a race shift set-up. Anyone know of any reasons why this would be a bad idea for a road bike?

I know it won't make much of a positive difference apart from bragging rights (or maybe not even that!)  :lol:

comfort mate.... if you like it do it  :icon_thumleft:

its what it all boils down to at the end of the day..... just one thing remember which way you have it set up could get embarrassing   :tongue3:

not sure that its ever even crossed my mind  :icon_scratch:

why would you want to do that ? I'd guess it's more of a problem if you get used to it and then take a test ride or a go on a mates bike  :dontknow:

Thing is I've never tried it before! I've never really got on with hooking up through the box & find it a right pain in the arse when I'm trying to do it in a hurry so just thought that I may find it easier the other way around. I thought of it when seeing rearsets advertised in both normal & race shift patterns.

thing is though it aint easy hooking up to change down .... IMO

I stamp down the gears to slow down ... using the slipper clutch as much as I can its what stops me really ....

if I swapped it , would seriously screw my stopping power (comfort IMO)

The only advantage of the  race shift is to allow you to change up coming out of l/h bends with the bike still leant over

Even with the boys at the top of the pile, there's still many that use road shift. Biaggi for one.

Give it a try, it's only a case of flipping the front connector over on the rearsets.

You will find it a problem if you ride other bikes as well as your own though.  14k revs then changing down instead of up is not nice.

If you do do it you will have to cut away a little piece off borywork to clear linkage when you turn it upside down! Did my sometime ago but to be honest unless your doing a lot off track work there is no real advantage for the road.

Why?...its pointless unless you are on track and a riding God!!....as already said even some of the riding Gods use road shift pattern!!!...complete waste of time methinks!!

Did I not mention earlier that my real name is Valentino?  :lol: I just thought that I would be a bit different and as I was considering getting some rearsets anyway it wouldn't make much difference.

Point taken though guys, I'll get road shift pattern.

It all depends what the racers learned to ride on. If they came up through motox like walker then they sometimes stick with 1 down 5 up

i didnt know they made diff rear sets for race pattern , i thought u just turned the bit upside down on the gear shaft  :roll:
