Rear subframe area now cleaned up (including all wiring and plugs) and re-assembled. Calipers and rearsets removed for refurb (anyone know where to get good polishing kits from ?). Hugger removed (needed another bolt drilling out).

Just ordered new DID X ring chain and also new A4 stainless bolts. Bought new battery and fork seals.

New shock and clutch plates are next on the list.

Bit more work done this weekend:

New forks to be re-built. Most of the bolts now replaced with A4 Stainless jobbies. Gonna whip gearbox out (cassette style a'la GP bike), and give it a check over too.

Very nice  :icon_thumleft:

Just a suggestion but while you've got it stripped that far it might be worth servicing/replacing the power valves - a known problem on these bikes - the bushes perish with time allowing the steel valves to drop into the motor via the exhaust port.

Steel is stronger than alloy

On my list of things to do !

New cables already ordered. The VJ21's didn't suffer the same power valve problems as the later models, apparently, but will be giving them an overhaul anyway......just to be safe !

Well, I've been busy doing loads of small, but important jobs on the RGV, like draining and replenishing the two stroke oil, replacing fixings with A4 grade stainless ones, cleaning the shock and links, re-fitting rear light and indicators, stripping and cleaning calipers, replacing fork oil and seals etc., plus a load more cleaning of hard to reach bits that you'd never get to with silly things like wheels, bodywork and suspension in the way !

Have also been busy polishing a few bits, such as the footrest mounts, kick plates, rear brake lever, front fork lowers and top yoke. Takes a while and a good amount of work, but they've come up pretty well. Started with 600 grade wet and dry, followed by 800, 1200 and 1500 grades, then solvol autosol.

Pic below shows one footrest mount before polishing (on the left, before you make any sarcastic comments) and one after. Hard work, but a lot cheaper than paying for it !

Forks now back on !!!! Could be a rolling chassis again in a few days !!!

It's starting to come together now !

Forks sorted, wheels back on, including new Renthal sprocket and bearing. Power valve cables replaced, new plugs, cleaned out grime from PV chambers and painted them blue (until I can afford the kit ones !), rear bodywork back on and battery fitted to check power valve operation.

Sussed the carb problem..........the tab on the float wasn't set right, so wasn't shutting the fuel off properly !

Cleaned-up and painted various brackets etc. and am now just awaiting new exhaust gaskets. Need to sort out silencers, as they're rusting slightly - were they chromed as original ?

Anyway.......here's a couple of pics:
