Everybody at some point wants to ride the Nurburgring.
What most people mean is the "Nordschleife" or Northern Loop. This is the part which is 13 mls long and you pay per lap.
Everyone has heard the horrow stories about "The Ring" being a dangerous place.
It is......... if you try to ride it like a normal short circuit. Its also
HEEEUUUUGE fun!
With cars, coaches and bikes out there all at the same time plus the technical demands of the place (1000 feet height variance and 73 bends per lap for starters!) it takes some getting used to. One of the biggest suprises is the speed of the cars compared to bikes. If your not a ring regular YOU
WILL GET PASSED BY CARS.
Very impressive what some of those Novas can do
.
Its a sooooooopurb place to ride. I live an hour away from the place and take guys there on tour all the time.
If you want to do the ring there are some basics you need to know.
The Nurburgring company have recently produced a safety video (not exactly rock n roll but it does cover a few important points) and some kind soul has nicked it for youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HND1_lov_BIIMPORTANT: If your taking your bike abroad it is ESSENTIAL that you carry a "European Health Insurance Card".
Have it with you at ALL times. Thats on your person. Not in a tankbag for instance. There was a guy came off his bike on the ring (ouch) last year and what was the marshalls first question?
Are you alright? Does it hurt anywhere?
Nope. Where is your EHIC?
Seriously, I dont think they would have moved him (even with 2 broken vertibrae) without it!
