Travel Tax
« on: February 08, 2007, 10:04:30 PM »

There are only 12 days left to register your objection to the 'Pay as you go' road tax ˆ which closes to petitions on the 20th February 2007. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at this time only 671,354 people have signed it so far and 750,000 signatures are required to stop them introducing it. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. Democracy in action? The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your bike / car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible." http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ PLEASE sign up...

done it all ready... wouldn't happen anyway I wouldn't have one in the car or bike.... it is outrages and will only turn people against the goverment more.

Take for instants the last couple of days there has been letter bombs to companies that deal with speed cameras and speeding etc ... it will get worse... it will be bedlam

ps the letter that exploded in wokingham was delivered to my work, before it was handed to the company in question, therefore one of my collegues handled it ... how scarey is that.

It's a load of shite, it'll be the richest using the roads and lack of 'freedom' for poorer people fucking bollocks to it all.

How about using the rail network to move retail goods so get the fucking lorries off the road and just use them for local hub transport networks instead redepolying the drivers ?

pisses me off all this charge and constraint bollox.

When I was a kid in the 70's we could roam free like onto building sites, across fields, threw sticks at trees for useless conkers, fished at ponds whereever and never paid a penny, it's call freedom and adventure. Unfortunately it's all gone now in the UK and it pisses me off  :boxing:

Couldn't agree more, with Andy that is.

I think it's a great idea to use the current rail system for distribution with smaller depots at certain stations.  This would create jobs in these areas and deliveries would be more efficient.

If they start this charging for use of roads during peak congestion times, will they also charge the same for agricultural vehicles cos they tend to slow a lot of traffic around here during both rush hours.  And what about horse riders (no pun intended Horse), there's a small group of riders who are on the roads around here between 4 and 6 regularly during the warmer months and they don't pay for using the roads but they sure as hell add to the congestion.

And what exactly have they done to improve the rail network and public transport.  I can't get a bus to work, it would add an extra hour and  a half to travel the 9 miles everyday as there's no direct bus that I know of.

Money grabbing bastards the fookin lot of  'em.  They tax the fuel, they tax the insurance, they tax the use of a vehicle on the road but they don't seem to put it back where it should be.  Then you have to pay council tax which they use to repair the roads that you've been taxed on already, where's the sense.

If no-one votes in the next election at all whatsoever, who then gets in???  As none of them seem to want to represent the people who put them there, they all have their own agendas and they are all thinking of what their legacies will be once they are gon.

Anyone else need this soap box as I'm done with it for now.
