Ebay problem again...what would you do?
« on: April 15, 2008, 01:09:57 PM »

Alright everyone,

Got myself another Ebay problem.

Ive won 3 items off an Ebayer. 1 item in a nose cone for a bike and the others are smaller trim panels. He has 2 feedback and is trying to start a bike breaking business on there  Gotta start somewhere i guess. He said in his auction PAYPAL only. I emailed him before the auctions ended and asked if i could collect the items if i won. I got no reply but then he emailed me as soon as the auction finished and said, PAYPAL and Post only.

Ive said check my feedback to see im an honest guy and you have no need to worry about your saftey etc if i came to collect but hes having none of it and says he dont want someone he dont know round his house.

Fair enough but he's trying to break bikes for a living, what does the guy expect :dontknow:

So what would you guys do? There is no way i am paying through paypal to this guy. It stinks of a scam. He is in London.

I'm thinking some type of courier and cash on collection type thing. I doubt he will go for it though.

I've give him my phone number now to see if he calls me to discuss what we can do.

Ebay is driving me mad at the minute as ive been scammed just recently, so am very wary.

Cheers

Jon.

do you have a credit card...... if so register the credit card with you paypal account and pay with this......

if you are scammed then it is the credit card backer (i.e visa or mastercards) responsiblity to back up there guarantee ..... you can claw the money back right away without any questions .....  B-)

I thought that if you paid with paypal you had certain guarantees.

The seller has to supply proof of delivery or you can claim your money back throught paypal.

Glen is right you can use a different credit card, i have to ask though, if this guy is breaking bikes up, and he dont want you anywhere near the property, you would have to question why? Looks like he has something to hide, like a load of robbed bikes maybe? I dont know, i dont thinks its a scam in terms of losing your money, maybe the origin of the parts is questionable and he doesn't want people snooping about :icon_scratch:

Good point, its the 2 feedback that makes me smell scam though.

I will do the credit card thing like Glenn says.

How easy is it to recoup the money off the credit card if i lose out Glenn?

very easy , you phone credit card company you put in a un recieved item claim there and then and they claw back money no questions ask really done it twice before ... 1 time they did try and contact the other side I basically said it wasn't my problem what they did they have a guarantee to stand up to so follow it through so they clawed back the money  B-)

Paypal claim and credit card claim are different ....

Paypal will do what they can to jumble you are with there terms ..... I am not sure they are even governed  :dontknow:

where has a credit card holds guarantees .... Visa/Mastercard have to fulfill them regardless.  B-)
