insurance with race cans
« on: April 11, 2008, 01:07:04 PM »

recently fitted a yoshi TRC can to a m8's k5 thou
he's getting renewal insurance on it & decided to tell them about the can :icon_scratch:
anyway they told him it has to b an eec road legal can
the TRC is a usa race can with no removable baffles & there is no markings what so ever,so its fine for mot time
as much as we h8 insurance firms ya can't just rivet a plate or polish out or stamp numbers to
get around it,i'm pretty sure they are'nt that stupid come assesement time in case of a crash
unless i'm wrong :dontknow:
anyone have/had this problem?

That's bollox....UK law stipulates that we don't need any markings on it as long as it passes the noise test at the discretion of the MOT tester. In fact I had a quote from an insurance company who said something similar, and I told them about the MOT rules and lodged a formal complaint with them as they are still in the dark ages. Needless to say I didn't take up their offer of insurance  :pottytrain2:

As for the insurance company, tell him to try a different one. I have my full Akro system declared on mine and it hardly loaded the premium at all.

just dont declare. the only time they wont pay out is if speed was the cause of the accident and the can was seen to have aided performance.

My insurance (A Quote) know everything about my bike, commander, can, levers etc, they said fine but we wont replace any of it in an event of an accident, but no extra premium applies.

A Quote is the insurance company in question
they told him they want proof its road legal
i don't get it :dontknow:
a can doesn't need markings,it doesn't have to have baffles,it just needs to pass noise test on mot 2 b legal
so why should it matter to an insurance company as long as its declared
personally i've never declared any mods :pottytrain2:
