FUCKIN' HELL... just lost my tankslapper cherry..
« on: January 27, 2007, 06:41:14 PM »

just been out for a blast, seein' as the weather here (lincs) was quite good... doin bout 140 over the crest of a hill and the front wheel went. absolutely friggin shit myself, but managed (through luck more than skill) to keep it up.  see what people mean when they say put a damper on them.  got back home and sat for a few minutes to calm down..

andy, think i best buy a damper now!! talk about shut the door after the horse has bolted. :-(

Mine was never light that I would get a tank slapper Mine was unstable fully pinned trying to keep up with the more experienced riders , on my 636 i could ring its neck and I was quite happy this I have to take it easy,

Now I have the damper it gives more confidence....

maybe, might  of been you grip on the bars too, sometimes can be rider error , though I am not blaming you mikey just trying to cover all angles

[whistle]  glad you are ok Son, get a damper buddy........... then you'll never have another moment like that one but be carefull as crest on good power at 140 should easily lift the front  :headbang:

If you were going over a crest under power, just getting the front wheel out of line slightly will get one going. Suspension setup can help but that doesn't change the physics that these machines are light and powerful and any time a front wheel comes back down out of line of the direction of travel, it will snap back and make you shit yourself. I popped a fork seal on my old gsxr 750 Slingshot when I got a tankslapper -  on a bumpy road - was hard on the gas overtaking a car. I honestly thought I was going down!!! Talk about frikken adrenaline!!!!
Glad you lived to tell the tale Mikey  :icon_thumright:

nah wasn't saying it was you mikey, I aint the best of riders anyway, damper does take away a bit of human error though.... you have to remember this is a track machine lumps and bumps is not its best friend  :icon_thumright:

i know you weren't tryin to offend me or anythin mate, but i am pretty pooh, and think it was luck more than skill that i kept it up.. (that wont be the version of events when i tell the strory in the pub....!!!!!!)
it certainly opened my eyes up to what a bike this is..
when i bought it, my mates would look at me when i told them, as if i'd just bought a tl1000... its the sort of bike that was in the "bikes you need to be good to ride" section of one of the mags.. fuckin great fun.. think i just need to think before i do stupid speeds over crests (obviously on a closed track)

. . . I was on that same closed road myself  last year !  . . . and hit a cat eye ( not real pussy ) ..... a while changing lanes wi just a bit power on and the front came up...... eeerm nice !

being on an 06'er that damper's come in useful once or twice.... one of those things you perhaps wouldn't normally buy until you've  had a near-brown/damp experience !  [rofl]

As for cleaning your leathers... just wear em inside out for a bit !!!  [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]
