Yep spot on there, everybody is on a diet of some sort, your diet is what you eat.

all I wanted to know is. If anyone went to extremes with there diet to meet there goal thats all....

It takes a certain type of commitment and I was just trying to justify being insanely commited  :emb:

Depends what your goals are. Unless it's for some form of competition then is it worth it? Most altheletes cheat on their diet a bit off-season but then get back to it for competion. I should imagine it'd be hard (and expensive) to keep the motivtion up all year round

Mine isn't for a competition .... short and curly of it

I used to be around 10.5 stone ... at 6ft 1 thats skinny as fook.... and when I was that weight I looked ill and like a kid so when I was in the Para's I was treated like a 16 year old little shit ... even though I was older than most of the twats there( I am generalising its not all bad).... they always wanted to fight (happy to ablidge of course then) so I started working out....

My dilemma now is I can't let go...... I get to a size ... then relax and don't commit myself so much lose a bit get depressed and then get committed again.... vicious circle  :emb:

I'm about to start and exercise regime cos I'm a fat lazt git and will change my diet too but nothing too drastic for me as lifes too shirt really and I like my food and a few beers now and then. I don't have the motivation like you G to train like that but would like to, I just know I'd get bored after a few weeks unfortunately.

reckon the mountain bike might come out tomorrow for a bit of fun as I have a few hours free  :icon_thumright: I'll cut back on the pies a little too  [whistle]

bodybuilding myself at the mo.........added an extra room on the front between my 36DD tits and my undercrackers  :icon_thumright:


ive been 19stone at my heaviest and 14 stone at my lightest.......at 15stone 2 now and at 6ft 4 i dont look too podgy but i lose weight in the summer and put on through winter....dunno why  :dontknow: going on my jollies in june and want to be 14stone 4 by then........our lass is gonna have to carry the cases to the airport as i will have to cut my arms off  [rofl]

Don,t know how old you are now GRNINJA but De Niro said in Cape Fear "the average man from the age of 34 gains 1 pound a year for the rest of his life" That,s ssooooo true mate. All my teens , 20 ,s and early thirties 10.7 stone, great for me being in bands and thinkin i,m Iggy pop, not good for you being pushed around in the paras. But realise that if you put on body mass now, you will have to keep training for good or you will look like the michelin man if you stop. Once you hit 40 you start wishing you were 10.5 again. I,m 13 stone now but that,s in the last 3 years, weight gain becomes all too easy. :cry:

Sounds like you need to change your goal, in that I mean take your size that you can get to then use that as your ultimate for those periods when you really need to be in that shape and then back it down a touch for the rest of the year. You will always fluctuate and thats why Bodybuilders tend to use laxatives for competition to help 'fine tune'. If your goal is somewhere between the 'relaxed' size and the ultimate then you can usually settle into a healthy pattern of eating and training.

I used to do a fair bit of training and went from 12.5stone to 15.5 in 6 months, then I settled down at 15.5 because it was only a matter of maintenance work and simple eating. Wish I was still at that stage  :-(

ive decided its cheaper to lose weight than buy expesive go fats (sorry) fast bits for the bike to improve my lap times. :lol:

but then we wouldnt be called fatboy racing.

hey grninja, I have been a competitive swimmer for most of my life (Up to national level, but never took it seriously silly me), I can honestly say I have never ever indulged in anything other than eat what I want..., I am no longer competing,. only becuase i just dont have the time, but I still swim most days, twice heavily with the club and I play squash and dance in addition.  i have always been well built, family trait, but never fat, although tummy a bit bigger than it should be these days....if i was really interested in toning up then I would eat more protein....to lose weight not to gain it....

If you want to gain you dont need just protein you need fats and carbs....I assume you are eating these too.  I may be out of touch as i havent looked at this for nigh on 20 years but this is how i remember it...

as regards muscle mass, not power,  the only way recognised is by working them and in extreme cases to expand them by damaging the muscles, ie creating rips in the muscle by overworking them, causing real pain....this is very extreme....but it then causes the body to repair the damage and by doing so it increases the muscle mass....but the muscles pound for pound are shite in reality....but you will grow...eating regularly is based on the notion that if  your body is in need of energy it will take this from its resources...ie it will eat your body...weight loss occurs...now if you have no fat it will take that energy from somewhere else....ie your muscles so all that hard work the day before is destroyed....therefore its important to eat plnety of calories...

You need a full diet, one thats meets all your energy needs, fats and carbs...very important that fats are included....and one that meets your body building needs, ie proteins but do niot forget all of the other minerals and vitamins that will be needed as well....it is supposed to be better for us to eat regularly and often so there is no harm in that just make sure you eat enough of the normal stuff...real meat with the fat, bread, potatoes, eggs but not too many....one a day unless you really are going for it...more are bad for your healt in other ways...you need to be sure you are keeping your choleterol levels very very low because these types of diets can increase levels to dangerous levels and cause blocked arteries and heart attacks in later life.....be aware that there are consequences to changing your natural body shape....especially as you get older...and your body will revert to its natural size once you stop due to injury, age, or lack of focus....something we are all prone to......

On a final note, If you really want to bulk then get hold of some steriods for a short period....they will bulk you within 12 months, but you will noitce a big difference within 4 weeks, makes you impotent and highly aggressive...so proceed with caution...but it certainly works...

If I was actually giving real advice and I am not but for what its worth I would find a physical sport that meets your needs and use that as your target not just body mass increases...

I am 29 mate.... and training all the time is not a problem..... I enjoy it .... it part of my life  B-)

If I was to ever stop all I would have to do it cardio... I do no cardio what so ever at the moment I barely walk anywhere either....   all my efforts are hard graft in the gym ... and now a strict diet plan  B-)

I'll let you guys know how it goes...
