Sorry mate a bit of both. Places like pembrey (real grippy tarmac and point and squirt layout) will eat tyres. Where as silverstone is not to hard on tyres at all. I have also had no probs at mallory even though it,s tight.  
And just to confuse matters i did 2 days at cartagena on Dunlops and they where awesome hardly a mark on them yet i put a brand new set of pirelli slicks on for the 3rd day and the rear self destructed in 20 laps it not only looked awefull but it was sliding on a couple exits and not very stable mid corner !!!
So i guess there is no equation that will predict tyre wear all you can do is get a good base setting for your suspension then get out and ride. Try a few differant makes and when you find one that you like stick with it.

what ever suits my budget at the time me thinks.... I don't mine the superbike slick its pretty cool..... but I think I was just as good on racetecs ....

I just don't think I ride that fast to really screw the tyres up...... I am easy on tyres as they say  :icon_thumleft:

Films called "Days of Thunder" based around indy race series, good film if you like the sound of v8 engines! :icon_thumright:

I suspect rider weight may come into it too. Remember one sunday afternoon, went for a blast with ZX10r Bob, both on same tyres, riding at same pace, only difference is i,m about 4 stone lighter, when we pulled in my tyres were warm but Bobs were a lot warmer! My theory may be wrong of course. :dontknow:

aaahhh.... but were your tyre pressures the same? Lower pressure means your tyre will get hotter quicker..... Just a thought....  :tongue3:

I've had this too with a Pirelli Slick.......fresh on at 9am and starting to slide by the third session in a day.......lethal by the 4th (back end breaking away on corner entries).............the thing was scrap..........I thought it was maybe a one off becuse I usually get 2 days out of a rear....???
