oh yes, I remember them well - nice bike as long as you kept it in pistons and the power valve linkages

Engine reliability probs mainly due to the ring pegs on the KR1, sorted on the KR1-S, steers by thought control & still by far the quickest 250 ever tested by a mag - PB recorded one @ 139MPH !

If it's a nice day & you're fully up for it, still probably the most full-on intense fun you'll experience on 2 wheels.  :icon_thumright:

If you're not, then best leave it in the garage & take the easy option of riding a diesel instead  :tongue3:

good ones are very collectable now when i worked a kawasaki we use to have a few customers that would buy anything that would fit a kr1s as they use to restore them, the kr1 was dog shit though, but the kr1s was a cracker..

rgv frame with an rg 500 engine...or with an rgv 500 engine...
the Rg 500 engine only made around 80-90 bhp and an RGV 250 can make around 65 to 70....
however if it was an rgv 500 they could make nigh on 180 bhp...it is my target bike for one day...they only ever raced the RGV 500 as it was a beast...I am still looking for one

The KIPS valves are the same, it's the barrels, pistons & exhausts that are the only real differences other than the chassis stuff.

Seen ex works Cagivas & the odd v-twin NSR Honda for sale, they've been going for 6 figure sums, Suzuki seem to keep a tight hand on their later 500GP stuff, never seen one for sale, but would guess you'd be looking at double that should one ever become available.

Of course having forked out that dough, what would you do with one, stick it above the fireplace ?  It'd need rebuilding after a trackday, which would be challenging considering you'd not be able to get any parts for it.....  Realistically if you've got that sort of money to spend you'd be better off getting a Desmodeci or 5 to play with.

RG500 engine makes 75-80 RWHP in stock form, but have been coaxed into producing over 145 in a reliable form....
