getting dialled in

 finally got a chance to let the duke stretch it,s legs today, all i can say is F---k  me ! my parameters bieng used to effectively 600 type performance from the 996, this will take a bit of time to get dialled in, lovin' it tough. seems to run a little wide in corners. ( Any suggestions ? ) apart from change the rider, or slow down!!!! :-P :icon_thumright:

 for road pace  a fairly moderate entry speed ,but still runs wide. Taken the damper down to 3 of 18 which has helped a little, running the standard factory settings for now , as i ain,t no Steve Hislop when it comes to set up! :icon_thumright:

OK, so the common causes of running wide are:

1) Your on the gas to hard with it on its ear - causing the front to go light and run wide

2) Your turning it too early, making the corner apex sooner than needed - causing the corner to complete wide

3) Your standing the bike up early

4) Setup is all wrong - you must start from factory settings to reference this

5) Tyre pressures - check

Given that easing the damper off has helped, I'd be inclined to think its a style thing !

To be certain, take everything back to factory settings before you do anything else.  If its from a dealer, CHECK that its at factory settings - three of my last 5 bikes have left dealers with no-default setups on the suspension.

Mark, get the sussy dialed in mate.  Or at lest set the static sag........ it has got a lot of weight to carry! ;)

When I race that 636, I has problems with it running wide - got it sorted with a 12mm spacer, lifting the rear shocker.

My bike was mapped today, not seen the chart yet, but it was doing 120bhp. Happy with that, considering I haven't had a lot done to the engine. Desperate to get out on it!

Compresion may be too hard on the front for your style.

Yeah does sound like compression...I'd reset everything to factory then work from there  :icon_thumright:

cheers guys,first port of call is as u say is to check bike IS on factory settings! was told they were, just pressumed it true, then take it from there.dukes are notoriously slow steering, am used to that, but this is too slow for my liking. :dontknow: :icon_thumright:

Could be compression or even too much front preload. However if backing off the damper helped then maybe you just aren't being aggressive enough with your countersteering

are you coasting through the corner or holding throttle or winding the throttle on while running wide?

this is causing you to run wide, you need to wind the throttle, say 5% more and this will unload the front and allow the bike to steer on the line you want to steer, at the sametime tho you need to be looking at where you want to go through the corner and the bike will steer there

i understand what you mean dude but if you want to steer you need to remove the compression on the front wheel caused by coasting through the corner

i was constantly doing this and scaring myself running wide untill a very good friend of mine who is a califorian superbike school instructor told me in order to not run wide and to keep a line you need to relieve the weight on the front wheel and the only way to do that is to wind the throttle on through the corner
