Tyre Question
« on: January 27, 2008, 11:36:05 AM »

With Silverstone looming on the 31st March and relatively limited funds available at the moment I am really looking for some reassurance from you guys  :emb:

I am going to have to keep my road tyres on the Gixxer for Silverstone and , having done August's TD on Super Corsa Pro's what am I likely to expect difference wise with the Bridgestones ??
They are in good nick all across ( bikes only done 1400 road miles in 3 years  ) and whoever had it before me doesn't seem to have " punished " them hard at all so will it just be a case of warming them properly for a good three of four laps then business as usual or do I need to know about any " peculiar traits " with them ??

Also , if anybody has done a TD on BT014's - what pressures do I need to run them on to get the best out of them ?
Those who know me will know I am not likely to be heading up my group but I don't think I am going to be the slowest  :emb:

Opinions welcomed guys and thanks in advance  :icon_thumright:

Tyre guide here, i'd say your 014 will be ok if it's dry.

Mate run the same 30/30 you will be fine.......

I don't personally like 014's as they lack the feel i get from racetecs supercorsa's  :icon_thumleft:

there are quite a few people that did fine on them though Chi used them at the first silvers and he kicked are on a 600  :icon_thumleft:

Andy - this explains to me what was going on with my Super Corsa Pros in August

SHOCK SPRING TEAR
When the shock spring is too soft or too hard, the tire carcass is put under extreme duress to the point where the tire shreds and melts. This can be determined by measuring sag to see if the target number cannot be reached firstly, without considerably adding preload to the spring or secondly, if all the preload is off the spring.

Will keep an eye on the Gixxer and poss get it set to my weight etc + bhp for the info  :icon_thumright:

G - cheers buddy - kind of puts my mind at rest as I reckon it will poss be " dampish " in March too + bhp for you too  :icon_thumright:

014's were the best tyre I'd used in the rain until I tried the Road Pilot 2 which have now taken the title as far as I can see.

Didn't do any track days on the 014's though but plenty of grip, it was the tip in feature that wasn't quite right.  It would get so far then it would feel like suddenly tipping another few degrees.

Pretty much how my '07 Ten used to feel then Ian  [whistle]

Only ridden in rain on road so far and I am inclined to agree with you but then , yet to try anything different on it yet  :icon_thumright:

i did the Mallory track day on bt014's.

ran them at 30/30psi.

had no trouble with them at all. they pretty much an all round tyre.
i now run corsa 111's which give better feel and predictable turn in.

the bt014's seemed to fall into turns withless feel from the front.
to be honest i thought they were fine till i changed to the pirrelis.

so to sum up i'd say you will be fine :icon_thumleft:
