Not saying "40 Queue Caution" would be a start!  They cause more than they solve
They should only be allowed to use them when there is an accident or flooding, etc. Not let the twats in hats switch them on.

I think the problem is with the driving mindset in this country this topic realy gets my goat not that I do much motorway riding but still it's the sheep/pride mindset.

There is no slow lane or fast lane. A lane for driving in and 2 overtaking lanes.

That is the letter of the law, yes. But in practice abiding by these rules is simply ludicrous!

yeah that is annoying...

Did you know in canada that although they have many lanes the isn't an overtaking lane...... (well in alberta for sure) Free for all on the over/undertakes  [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

That is just plain fucking stupid!  [rofl]

I agree with this totally. If there is nothing in the middle lane i will sit there, if there are vehicles in the middle lane and i am moving faster i will sit in the FAST (lets face it, everyone calls it that!)  lane and stay there, providing i'm not holding anyone up. But i aint sitting in that bunker ridden mess of a cannonball run!  [naughty]

Yeah but people do hold people up and won't pull over. It's a problem that can only be got around by legalising undertaking. I drove in the middle east for over 9 years where undertaking was allowed and it isn't a problem. If you are expecting it you look out for it.
Another thing we could learn from the yanks is allow left turns at red lights if it's clear to do so.

Didn't think you could get booked for undertaking, I thought it was driving without due care or something like that.

I'm off to google DVLA and find out.

True

and couldn't find a reference to it on the DVLA site, the Highway Code says "You shouldn't move to the left lane to overtake traffic" so I suppose it's a grey area really.

It isn't illegal to undertake, however the Police class it as dangerous driving/driving without undue care etc..

Its the trenches that the 38 tonners create in the tarmac, my car does the same thing, i've found them quite handy though if you get settled in the groove you can nod off and have a snooze with the cruise on, its like a big  scalectrix!!  [whistle]
