Yeah but people do hold people up and won't pull over. It's a problem that can only be got around by legalising undertaking. I drove in the middle east for over 9 years where undertaking was allowed and it isn't a problem. If you are expecting it you look out for it.
Another thing we could learn from the yanks is allow left turns at red lights if it's clear to do so.

You mean they allow right turns if the lights are on red. Left turns you would have to cross the carriage ways

Yeah the yanks allow right turns, but obviously over here it would be left turns.

If i'd have said "Another thing we could learn form the yanks is allow right turns at red lights" then someone would have said "right turns you would have to cross carraigeways in the uk"

our roads are alot more diverse here though ... if you were to allow left turns at every red light then you can never be sure what else can be coming.... its alright on big arse straight american roads but here it would be chaos especially with all the foreigners and there own rules  :dontknow:

Why do cars do 40 on the motorway?  That's why everyone's in lane 3 the lorries have to stay in lane 2 to keep overtaking muppets who should be using A roads.

I'm in favour of the left turn at lights malarkey as well.

Things I've noticed on the motorway recently that suggests the law has changed since I last looked:

It's ok to tow a mini-digger behind a transit doing 75mph.
Trailers are allowed in lane 3.
HGVs over 30 tonne are allowed in lane 3, and will give you a V-sign and sound their horn if you politely suggest otherwise.

About half way down that page.

Also I was informed a few years ago that if you cannot see out of the rear window of a van your speed on the motorway/dual carriage way  is 60mph  (Copper pulled a mate of mine for it)

got to be honest, people hogging the middle lane fucks me right off and if its safe to do so i will undertake, as long as im not going to put anyone at risk, people should move out of the way for faster moving traffic, if that means having to sit in the inside lane doing 70 or lower then so be it, every other country i have driven in and even ireland take this idea into account, and driving in those countries is hassle free compaired to this county

the inside lane is for driving and the other 2 for over taking, and im glad to see the police pulling people for sticking to the middle lane when there is absolutly no need to as the inside lane is clear, this is a clear case of driving with undue care and attention

In the states you have to physically stop at the light and check it's clear before making the manoeuvre otherwise you'll get a ticket.

Yep which is why you can do 150mph plus on some Autobahns, because the average German driver knows his lane discipline and wont drive in the outside lane if he's not overtaking, even if it's empty

I will sit in the middle lane if there is no traffic behind me regardless of if there is traffic in the inside lane or not.... if some one is coming up behind me then I move out the way...

I don't tend to have that problem though .... people rarely come up behind me.....

disclaimer, this is not because I speed but because I do all my motorway miles at night when no one is on the road
