so why would my daughter want to buy an imac rather than a 'normal' laptop 

It's her money but why do they cost 50% more than an equivalent laptop ? is it a fashion thing sort of like an ipod is better than other MP3 players etc  or is there something fantastic like free upgrades and chocolate for life

less to go wrong and they just work and they come with everything you need unlike windows...

and unlike window it uses a secure file system (UNIX) that has less cloak and dagger and more usabilty

you can still get virus's but unlike window it won't effect the whole machine. the file system hierarchy means that you have to have certain control access everything and without it you can't control the whole machine

Best laptop I've had. Got the carbon fibre one. Knocks the socks off anything else spec wise.

G, can you run leopard on a non  mac system? Mac say that leopard can  be run on an intel based system now.

well, the Apple reseller wanted silly money for what looked like a piece of tat so she bought a really nice HP for less money with loads more features

no mate , Intel base as in there own intel chips they make not other machines 

if you want a machine like a MAC but not a MAC you want to Run this http://www.ubuntu.com/ similar thing has everything you need top quality and FREE

can run on any system

the new mac is an intel core duo, they have an agreement with them to supply them chips now.

if you don't wanna fork out any cashola just download ubuntu and check it out of you don't like put you microshite back on it (make sure you have the install disk before pissing about)

I've got multiple partitionson mine for recovery, etc. I'll have a look.
Have a load of stuff tomake up a media pc for the kids, so may try it on that
