I've got multiple partitionson mine for recovery, etc. I'll have a look.
Have a load of stuff tomake up a media pc for the kids, so may try it on that

if you want to make a media pc then don't bother installing the ubuntu cd use the LinuxMCE it uses ubuntu but its all setup already for you http://www.linuxmce.com/

Just a word of warning about Ubuntu and other Linux Distributions before some of you go rushing in.

They can, at the press of a button, repartition your hard drive. This means you will lose everything on the hard drive that includes hidden recovery partitions.

My advice would be to try a Live CD first or get an old or second hand hard drive from somewhere to have a play about with it first. It takes a bit of getting used to and you will definitely wipe it off and reinstall it all least once in the first week of using it.

Ubuntu 7.10 desktop i386is popular at the moment because its easy to install and easy to use. There are others out there.
Glenn mentioned the LinuxMCE I would stay away from that unless you have used Linux before as it is in the early stages of development and you will have problems with almost all the extras.

Ubuntu can be downloaded here ( This can be used as a Live CD and if you like it the full installation is also on the CD) .

Been working on 70 odd macs today and I didn't even leave the office, well except for the kettle, bog and smokes.

I love them as the kids can't screw them up as easily as the Windows PC's because of the Unix based structure and using ARD is brilliant.

Still running Tiger as it's too pricey for us to upgrade to Leopard.  But with Leopard you can share your desktop so that you can remotely log into it from a Windows based PC.

As Glen said, their not immune to viruses, however because you need root access to change most things it won't affect the MAC's but only pass it on to Windows PCs, so it's a carrier rather than a victim.
