Have just watched the Ulster GP 2005 highlights DVD and whilst watching came up with a question that is bugging me.

Here goes.

In track / circuit racing when it is wet if you go over  a white line on the edge of the track they are like ice and there is a good chance of binning the bike especially if cranked over or you touch the brakes.

In the  Ulster Gp 2005 there were some wet races. Despite crossing white lines in the road cranked over in corners (probably braking on them going in too) and gassing it over the lines going out of the corners the racers didnt seem to have a problem with grip.

 Does this mean that the white lines on roads / road circuits are painted with grippier  (is that a word?)   paint than that used on tracks and if so why dont they use it on the tracks in circuit racing?

Im not sure about the irish roads but Isle of man TT circuit all white lines are painted with special paint. As you say it grips even when wet. Id say its probably the same on the roads in Ireland. Not sure what they are painted with on the mainland.

I was just gonna say what Jon said the paint in IOM isn't like the thick overbanding its like a thin based paint that is so thin it keeps the texture of the road

over here it is powdered glass in white paint to make it reflective.

useless information from me

ive also heard that it has a plastic content aswell
to make it durable.
