Here is an idea
« on: November 26, 2007, 07:16:21 PM »

pinched from another forum actually.

How about creating a database, in a secure location, of who lives where(ish) and what they can help with in emergencies etc . i.e

Myself I live near Wellingborough,  have car, no trailer or van, will come to help within a 30 mile radius, can put one up for a night, tool mong, can offer lifts in case of emergancy or breakdown.

some else could be live near ***** have a bike trailer, have two spare rooms, and tune bikes for Rossi so road side help is good.

Just thought it is a good idea if you are out some where or on a track day away from home and need help then you could call a mate from the forum who could help out.

I know we have the map and locations link just thought that this could be an expansion.

Gets my vote, us bikers have to look after each other. there are only a couple of issues.
1/ how to access this info if your out and about, its not as if your able to log on the site
2/ keeping this info secure

the only way i can see it work is if 2 or 3 members volenter to be "on call " so to speak and are willing to give their mobile number out. these members would only have access to the info. so a call to one of the "emergancy numbers" they could give out a number of someone who has volentered their details as being available to help. the idea of 2 or 3 numbers is incase one or more is unabtainable.
But im sure something could be worked out. and would be up to sign up for such a scheme

what is a tool mong ?

a collector - someone who can prolly provide the tools, but certainly doesnt guarantee that they know how to use them ;)

good idea dude, id be up for that :)

im north hertfordshire, got trailer, spare room, spare bike, all the tools you can need and dont mind travelling if im not at work (i work central london) and am at home (im often away of a weekend, but most people usually know where i am) - if youre at or near a circuit, i can prolly help too. my other half is currently in byfleet, surrey and has the above with the added benefit that he is a mechanic/engineer and is about during office hours, plus he has the unit ;)

i dont think we would charge you to help you, lol, but it might be nice if you were to offer us some fuel money, even if we declined it ;)

I agree on both  points obviously it would need to be secure. As for being out and about a couple of key members with numbers would be a good way to go about it, my phone is 24hrs due to my work so I'm up mfor it.

The other way to keep it secure is that maybe a couple of people have a password for a secure section and when they get a call they could log in. So not everyone has access to the important info.

that means we have to give our number out..... I had some one call me the other day from SA said he knows me from a chat room (i assume here) and said I would meet up with him when he was in england.... I don't remember ... so if I get any ole joe calling me up at stoopid o clock and I am out with the misses or family and I can't help.... i'd feel guilty and i'll be no use to the person that needs help

 :dontknow:

just think the idea is very floored  :dontknow:

Im up to help out although im tucked down in the south east but i am very close to the port of DOVER, so will be handy for people traveling to and from europe. Am a mechanic and have a dry secure garage at home for emergancy repairs or storage. have 2 spare rooms and a car.
