Dave...........  :boxing:

Aye they fill a gap for sure, I see with my lads that after a 125 there's a huge gap and step up to a 600 which in my book is just silly. The only bike they can find is a DR400 really, yes I know there are others just nothing much these days really.

When I were a lad, yes a long time ago, there was a definite slow step up to the bigger bikes but it all seems to have gone for some reason  :icon_scratch:

I hope it does really well and is a great step up after a 125 in my opinion  :icon_thumright:

I don't think the old 600 are too much of a step Michael just got a 600 g1 and he is fine on it and its his first bike  :icon_thumleft:

though I spose he knows nothing else so will be responsible where as if you had summit with no power and weighs next to nothing and move to summit with double the power and double the weigh might be summit different  :dontknow:

To go from a 125 to a 600 is a massive jump. A 600 can get out of hand pretty easy

My concerns are with my lads stepping up from a tiddly 125 that manages 80mph to a much larger 600 with 150mph, I try to convince a 600 Bandit would be good to step up to and can take a few falls but the kids want a 600 sports these days and they are affordable. I know that accidents can happen at any speed but an 18 year old on a sports 600 will probably ride too fast. Yes there are many points to a discussion on bike progression but I'd personally rather see my lads slowly step up to the mark just like I did, I worry about them for sure

Im my day it was
50cc
125cc
250cc
550cc
750/1000cc
as a rough route

now it's
50cc
125cc
600cc

The difference I see is that the 125's haven't changed hugely performance wise but the step to 600cc sports is massive and is equivalemt to me stepping from my 125 to 1000 cc which would have been so wrong.

oh well my 2p worth anyhow

nice one Kawasaki for plugging a gap  [pray]  :icon_thumright:

aye, but for kids who are 17-18 and my kids at that I just want a sensible step and there are hardly any, the Dr400 is a good option but is almost the only one for them, when I were a lad there was a huge choice it just seems to have gone  :dontknow:

biggest problem apart from the outright speed potential is the power delivery. An  engine with lots of midrange is much easier to deal with in difficult conditions. I tried a couple of 600 sport bikes before I rode the 10r and I found the biggest difference was the power delivery.   At lower revs the 10r won hands down. Obviously its easy to get in serious trouble with so much power but   i feel really comfortable on the 10r in the wet or on dodgy surfaces because at lower revs the power is easy to control, but there is still plenty of it. A real peaky power curve is not the best for those with less experience, especially on the road where we all get tempted into less than sensible moves at times. 120 or 180? not much different if you hit something.
