1098 race rep.
« on: July 11, 2008, 03:05:19 PM »

Afraid the project has had a big setback. [wall] Finally picked up the painted track fairings last night, got them home to apply the decals before laquer. Bought the decals in kit form about 3 months ago, but used a good local graphics company for the ones that were missing. Used all the decals from local firm first.... ( Look fookin, awesome....) then started on the kit set. As i peeled off the backing sheet i thought " vinyl looks a bit thin and cheap!"  :-( carried on regardless, the next one was a sponsor decal, peeled of backing sheet.... " Shit.. they,re all cheap naff printed decals." tried a couple on the bike..... " Yep,,,, They still look shit." after 30 mins debating what to do i decided, They gotta go. Only trouble is i think i was a bit frugal with the washing up liquid `cos when i went to take off the offending articles they decided to take some of the fresh paint with them. [wall] [wall] Painter now doing nose section again... Hope i don,t have a 2 month wait for it back. Decided to have the crappy kit decals replicated by my local graphix supplier. ( At least i know the quality) lesson learned me thinks!!!    Three months into the project and this is all i have to show.

I do a few paint jobs on the side for spare trackday/nurburgring money, and a lot of supposedly reputable companies sticker kits are shit.

Do yourselves a favour and get them made up locally at least you can go in and see them, and make sure your paint is good and hard before applying them cos it will mark/remove the paint.

Another thing if you use very thin and delicate designs like the corona suzukis for example, they have a tendancy to lift up on the edges due to the lacquer getting underneath.

Hence all my stickers go on top now, and its easier to repair or change designs.

They do look good lacquered in mind.

I tell you what mate those 1098r's go like fook. I got behind one at anglesey we both pinned it down the str8 and there was nothing in it !! Not even an inch

Not bad for a bike that has evolved from a masey ferguson  [rofl]

So when is the first track day ? I am in i could follow one of them all day  B-)
