ZX10R Understeer hrmmm

as I'm getting more used to the bike, my bike's inherent desire to understeer is starting to bother me a bit (especially as I ran wide on the Leics. twistes yesterday  :shock: ...now is it:

-  a natural feature of the bike
- something cureable by a suspension tweak (although tbh I would rather not raise the ride height if pos)
-  or something down to my tires, pressure or mebbe a bit of squaring off (it has 500 test miles on it, ex-demo bike, +600 from me)

I can overcome it, just having come from the Aprilia which was pretty effortless on turn and track in, I find I'm really having to make an effort to get the baby to turn proper...I can deal with that of course its just like "do I have to?"...

I was thinking may be a switch to Pirelli Diablos might help once I wear out the o/e Dunlops it has on at the mo.

Thoughts anyone?

suspension for sure though you don't have to change the ride height... just go a to a suspension specialist pay 40 odd quid and they will set the sag etc that should be enough...

I would change them tyres to corsa 3's right away them dunlop oe tyres are shite.....

I think I saw you already had a damper so thats cool there  :icon_thumright:

 +1 OE tyres really don't do much for the steering

cheers guys...yeh think will try the tire route as is easiest  :-P

grip wise though I have found the Dunslips ok actually, but that turn in is a booger.

I do have the ohlins damper (standard now innit?) ...only found out how it worked yesterday  [rofl]

(my excuse is that the one on my TL1000 was non adjustable  :lol: )

ah well...seems to be a bit of debate on the tire choice  :lol:   although ...my only ever tire-grip caused off was on Metzelers (REAR slide on a wet Swiss roundabout) !! I really rated the Diablos on the RSVR, but they may not be the thing for the ZX.

I know the Michelins are rated and not just cos Nicky Hayden does that funny brillo pad advertisement in his Kentucky drawl  [rofl]

try out the corsa 3's or the metzler M3's mate they will do you great..... where do you live... I would certainly go and get a suspension guy to set it up for you...

did mine recently on the race bike cost 40 quid and transforms the bike  :icon_thumleft:

Guys - although tyres can definitely make a difference, please keep in mind that the most important thing to get done 1st is, as Glen mentioned, to get your suspension set up for your weight. And here we're not talking about damping, we're talking about getting the static and rider sag set correctly, which affects the geometry of the bike with you on it. So many people get a bike and never bother measuring what their suspension's doing, but simply accept that it must be ok when in fact, it's not. Get this right 1st and then move on to looking at your damping settings, tyres, etc...

doesn't make a difference they could of set it really soft so that the average rider don't kill them selfs on it..... but not good for anyone wishing to actually get the bike to perform  :dontknow:

2ct's all the way, transformed the front of my bike like you wouldn't believe

also if you feel your running wide open the gas a little this will take the weight off the front and bring the bike back on line
