america has a relatively limited number of motorcycle 'purists.'  finding people who ride motorcycles to work and on a daily basis is almost unheard of.. i'm one of about two or three people i know who actually commute on them. motorcycles are typically used here for status symbols, just to say you have one, or to pile all your shit ontop of in the garage.  its the reason Harley does so well, along with the custom chopper scene..  choppers are virtually unusable motorcycles. a friends dad has had his for 2 years and frankly its hard to remember the last time it wasnt in the shop.  i think the motor has needed a full rebuild twice. the bike is gorgeous, dont get me wrong.. i'd love to have the extra $40,000 laying around to waste on one, but its hardly called a motorcycle at that point.

as for the chromed out bling bullshit, its what makes up a great portion of the other people who do ride. bikes are a huge portion of the black culture here, and strangely the first thing they all wanna do is chrome it out, cover it in rediculous lights, colors, chrome, or other things that glimmer and sparkle.. apparently black men are like fish.  ;-)

really as a whole in america, if you wanna find a purist, track down a BMW motorcycle rider.. those guys are hardcore as hell. i've got a customer at work who picks up randomly and rides to Georgia from here in Texas for the weekend "just cuz i've never been there and i wanna see whats there." its about a 20 hour trip one way. he shows up, spends the afternoon and turns around to ride home. he has about 210,000 miles on a K1200 that he custom welded a 13 gallon fuel tank for, that fits under the stock tank cover.

jesus thats hardcore, a 20hr one way trip

its strange how bikes are looked upon in differing nations.
apparantly in France all bikers are as cool as!

over here in the uk people still bang on about harleys
mainly the ones that dont ride.

and some people actualy hate motorcyclists with a passion.

whats the story with that lowering craze in the states?
to me it looks bllody dangerous

drag racing is a fairly big sport here.. much more so than roadracing, both cars and bikes and anything with wheels really.  there are about 3 road-race tracks in texas, and there are about 3 drag strips in the central texas area alone. so naturally it kinda spawns from that, and the lack of ability of people actually riding.  you take a majority of people out into the twisties and they'll shit themselves, but anyone can get on the highway and pin it open.

so really:
- we have lots and lots of room with tons of wide open highways.
- most of the riders here lack talent.  the riders who are decent question the lowered bike thing and act very similar to decent riders anywhere in the world.
- drag racing is big here naturally.

ahh i see then.

so the crowd that drag race realy need the stabilizer wheels at the rear then :icon_thumleft:

is the speed limit 55 across all states or does it differ :dontknow:

some of the roads are as straight as a die so would be tempted to open up

we very lucky over here s we have loads of traffic islands for kneedown etc.

where can you do that in the states?

yeah.. the ones that really race, use it.  there was a turbo Hayabusa the other night at the strip when we went running 8.90's @165 on a stock wheelbase, just lowered.

not at all.. it really varies depending on where you are. for the most part highways are 70mph, with some places being like 75 or 80.. not sure which they're up to nowadays as i typically dont pay a TON of attention to them. the 75+ limits are out in super rural middle of nowhere areas or interstate highways.

west texas is gods forsaken territory. a friend was riding from california to texas, and leaned on the tank out in west texas.. he fell asleep immediately after noticing a mile marker..he woke up 3 mile markers later, and had only drifted about 6 inches to the left.

lots and lots of rural areas and open roads.. you gotta head outta town to get to em and know about where to look for em.  do a youtube or google search for Tail Of the Dragon, or Deals Gap.  like 315 turns in 11 miles or something nutty.. awesome riding road.
