I filter I use my common though ...... but I don't use me bike for travelling to places  unless I really have to..... its for fun only so tend to keep away from m/ways

it ifs country roads that I am filtering on I usually am behind someone else thats filtering so I just use them as a crash dummy

im just saying we should be v.cautios and aware in these situations.

Sorry, mis-read the post, HOWEVER, if, when moving out of a minor road into a major road and the gap has been left by queueing traffic, then you have to peep and creep. The gap thats been left is not an authourity to proceed and you must establish that it is safe to emerge.

You never know, with a good brief he might salvae something!!

if you are filtering past traffic which is stopped or almost stopped and someone pulls out in front of you close enough that you can't avoid a collision when travelling at a reasonable speed then the resposibiltiy for the collision rests squarely with the other driver.

Was on the way to work this morning and as i approached one of the many roundabouts .I started to filter through the trafiic until i saw the markings of a police car and as i started to get back into line they moved out of the way and waved me through. This happened twice more , they must have been bike riders themselves . But it goes to show that if your filtering in a safe manner they will leave you be.

The biker should have approached a gap in slow/standing traffic with extreme caution, however if he hits the car then it's the car drivers fault as he/she must make sure that it is safe to pull out.
What has likely happened, and I've seen it loads of times, is that he has presumed that as the traffic is at a standstill then there can't be anything moving in that direction.  The car driver is then only focussing on traffic coming in the opposite direction in order to enter the oncoming lane of traffic.
Having said that, it will also depend on the travelling speed of the biker as to whether he was making good progress at a safe speed.

We all filter thats without question as Andy said. However in this case i think both parties have learned a lesson or two. I've been U turned, pulled out on (just like the TV ad) its safe to say everytime you get on ya bike is a learning experience not to be taken for granted.
