Whats the Consequence
« on: September 15, 2007, 07:17:33 PM »

Does anybody know what the consequences are for doing 91mph in a national speed limit zone?

Got pulled today off a unmarked police car, had my rights read to me etc and was told I will be facing a court appearance.  But how badly are they going to sting me, 3/6/9 points?

He said that I wasn't riding dangerously but I was exceeding the limit by 31mph.

was it a single lane or 2 lane....

if its under 93 mph then they can't give and instant ban but can still throw the book at you could be luck of the draw with the judge... and who goes in that day.... if you get some nutcase go in before you then you could be ok but if you get an old lady who got caught shoplifting then they might think your a hooligan  [wall]

good luck though buddy  :icon_thumleft:

Cheers guys.

I was caught on a single lane country road (well 2 lanes, 1 one way 1 the other)  There were no houses about and it was a fairly wide dry road with very good visibilty and very little in the way of traffic.

I've never been to court before, what should I expect?

30 over the limit used to be an automatic ban, so I hope your feeling lucky.
If  I ever stop they always go for broke on my ass, not sure if thats just to make up for all the times I got away ?
have you seen 'my name is earl' ?

Would it not be worth going to court tho and saying something like "getting any more points on my licence might jeopardize  my job" ?

Or wont they be bothered.

I could always try " I was getting chased by a load of loonies who I thought were going to kick my head in, hence the reason I was speeding".  LOL

to be honest mate if the having points mean your job is fucked then you are fucked cause you will get points regardless......

without sounding like a coont mate...... you have to be prepared to do the time if you did the crime ...... we all know going silly speeds there is a possibility of getting points etc.... so trying to say to a court if you get point you will lose you job they really won't sympathise mate..... only way you can argue the Job thing really is if you are going to loose your license...... but if its just points I don't think they will care  :dontknow:

though I have been wrong on a prediction with the court thing before so don't take my say as gospel..... I will say though if you are going to go to court get your self a good brief , if you go on your own they will throw the book at ya, just cause they can..... they did with me and when I told a brief exactly what I got they said they would of been able to get me off the ban .... ho hum

good luck though buddy I hope you get the minimum you can  :icon_thumright:

at best m8 i would say 6 points, and a hefty fine, the limit on that road is 60,so as you are 30 mph over the limit, you have crossed the threshold of where a ban can be considered by the magistrate,as others have said,do your home work, get a good brief and get a ggood story together as to why they shouldn't ban you.i'm not saying you will, but be prepared for the worse, also it would depend on your previous history i would imagine aswell.

 :iamwithstupid:
Every time i've been to court for speeding i have told the court that if i get banned i will lose my job which means i will not be able to pay the mortgage and be able to feed my Son as my partner does not work. The court will not ban you if it means your family are going to suffer because they took your license off of you, especially in the circumstances you described. The copper that nicked you will give a description of what was going on around you at the time so the judge will have an idea of the situation!.....as Glenn said dont take this for gospel but it has worked for me in the past!
