so whats been your worst biking injury?
« on: September 05, 2007, 12:41:31 PM »

September twentysomething aloost two years ago i was riding into work...

came up to a large junction, pulled away with traffic on a green light... sensed the keys coming out of my pocket, glanced down to try and catch them (broken zip on jacket)

all i can assume is some kid hit the pedestrian crossing to go to the college up the road because when i looked up i was bout 6 inches away from crashing into the back of a stationary Merc A-Class...

bout 40mph - BOOM!!

broke the following:

hairline fracture of neck
three crushed vertebrae
basal fracture (same type of injury that made them introduce the HANS device in motorsports - its right beside the brain stem)
double duboid fracture in foot
broke my nose in 4/5 places (lid was my backup one, way too big for me and on too loose)

ancillary injuries:

lost my sense of smell (severed bundle of nerves in skull)
nerve damage in left eye - eye temporarily turnd right on, hads double vision and associated MASSIve headaches./nausea/disorientation
nerve damage in teo fingers of right hand (still mroe or less numb)

ive had my nose rebuilt twice since then, had to readmit myself to hospital when my eye turned in, but was still back in work 15 days later (for bout 30 mins, then realsied sitting there with a broken neck and broken back in three places wasnt the best idea)

so...

any gory stories????

P.S. bike was three week ZX10R in black, 600 miles on the clock - GRRRRR!!

heres my back x-ray, captured on a shitty camera phone - was the only one i nabbed when at my final checkup... gutted...

came off at park (cadwell) everything would have been fine ,until i decided i wanted to get to my bike ,,,i was still sliding along on my arse at the time (approx 40mph) i put my arm down to get up  :emb:  ,,resulting in a froozen shoulder ,off work 9mnths ,, as im a plasterer and shoulders is everything in my game ,,even started a driving instructor course thinging that was the end of my plasterering life , but it gradually came back , i have full strength now ,, but cant throw anything ner as far as i used to be able to  :-(.. still lesson learned , keep ur hands well tucked in  :-P.............. pretty boring injury wise but time off work was a killer ,
