Anyone else (other than Shongololo and myself) into the man's game?
Was watching the history of the RWC on telly last night. I got all teary (real men cry OK!) watching SA taking the cup in '95 at their first attempt - I remember that it was the first time in my life that SA felt like one country supporting Ama Bokko Bokko. When we lifted the trophy, every main road in every city/town/village was just one big party. (BTW there is another programme on ITV4 tonight @8pm about the last Cup when England won.)
There was also a programme directly after showing the run up to the RWC - I never knew that so many countries even play the game! Senegal, Morocco, Angora, Spain, Portugal... I was suprised at the lack of supprt in the US though. Even if it is a minor sport, I would have though that with 360 million people they would be able to find enough people to stand at least 1 deep all the way around the field at an international knock-out home game! Their boys have come a long way and put Uruguay (sp?) out, who have qualified for the last 2 cups.
Springboks vs England next weekend. The Bokke should take it, which will put us top of the pool and make the rest of the championship much easier. The 2nd placed team (probably England) will then face France (at home!) and New Zealand getting to the finals - not impossible, but I wouldn't want to do it.
