"There are only three sports, Bullfighting, Rock Climbing and Motorsport........everything else is just a game" Earnest Hemigway..................

Basically if you are not risking your life then it's not a true sport...........

Footballers.......overpaid puffs.....................
Why not quote that to Rossi , Stoner and Pedrosa  as you remove the air fences and gravel traps from the circuits and then see if they will still ride.  :D

and you could do with brushing up on your english, go to the dictionary and look up "puff"

Get a life

Quote
like Andy says you is either into bikes or football.

Generalisations again. I'll generalise then, most bike riders/armchair motorracing enthusiasts tend to be unfit and crap at sports. Probably got picked last in the school playground games and had a note from mum to be excused PE ;)

bloody hell I have a lie in and you fuckers start fighting  [wall]

Andy did generalise so in fairness shong's the argument about the in shape riders will be a small amount. Though I for one am not over weight.... neither is Henas neither is Yogi neither is Jon and I could list most of the members on here that are not fat overweight beer swillers...

The picking again Jims spelling was uncalled for  [naughty]

now..... If you can't play nice and have a discussion nicely about the F word then i'll lock this topic  :icon_thumleft:

er. variety is the spice of life. lets try not to make this personal. but it is arguable that the reason football gets a lot more sponsorship than motorcycle racing is because people associate with the players. there's a story. with f1 for example, theres a story and it was life threatening (Gilles Villeneuve, Aryton Senna). In fact, nobody has died in F1 since Senna in 1994.

take ollie bridewell's death, marc ramsbotham (tt), there have been a few younger potential starlets too. these were publicised but the public didnt take hold of them. why?

i think there is a stigma attached to motorcycle racing. its that we are all self obsessed death numb idiots. i race because i want to understand the bike and myself better and because its fun, not because i think im brave or that i should be idolised for defying death again. i broke my right hand. that makes me feel like a bit of a prat. i made a mistake and now ill have to live with that for the rest of my life.

unfortunately all publicy aired events are at the mercy of the fashion conscious fickle public. for now, football is often the sport of choice and motorcycle sport may never take top spot. but remember we come from a history of violence so whatever sport the public chooses to watch and the media chooses to screen, its the gladiator type of attraction that is innate to us as a species.

just food for thought. i had a similar convo with a mate that owns a gp team.

Not picking a fight with anyone, as most of you know, I just like a bit of argumentetive banter  Only picked up on Jim's spelling because he quoted Hemmingway. Obviously he's a bit of an eductaed chap, after all Hemmingway is one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.

There are a few pro footballers who are into bikes, but for insurance and contractural reasons they aren't even allowed to ride one on the road.

The injury point is a bit of a strange one though. Because of my bike injury i wont ever risk playing in a football match again :( However i have no qualms about doing trackdays and falling off.

really though...... I have watched football , especially when West Ham was in the fa cup final the other year.... and I just really can't get into it, I have played it to I have done training with Leyton Orient and football has been a key part of my family for years....

It just isn't everyone cup of tea..... Riding a bike give me pleasure , make me happy , give;s me adrenaline.......

Playing football I just get bored. If I can't relate to it then it just doesn't interest me....

I couldn't give a crap about whether one is more macho than the other or whether one makes me hard or not.....

what's in my mind makes me hard.....  knowing how much pain my body takes and still carry's on makes me hard

HARD isn't being the best fighter, hard isn't I am bigger and better than you.... HARD is no matter what you come against you carry on....

You can be a football player, a Moto GP rider or anybody with a bit of self worth that pushes themself more than the average person.

RANT OVER  [whistle]

i love football

i love motorbikes

i have been brought up since the age i can remember to support football and no other sport brings out the emotions of joy and frustration in 90 mins for me

people like what they like, if we all had to like what everyone else does then the world would be a boring place to live

not all football fans are idiots

Agree about the football fans chris, there's always an idiotic minority that spoil it for the rest. Same as those so called racing "fans" who booed Kiyonari after he won the BSB title and the same ones who booed Stoner at the Donnington riders for health do.
