Friends of mine had a Laguna for a while, they were happy till the rear axle rotted through.

I think they managed to get it to the scrap yard before it finally gave up though.

Would suggest a diesel car would be better for towing mate as it will have a bit more low down grunt unlike a petrol that you'll have to rev up to get a move on.

Just my opinion mind.

aye a diesel does make sense really, I've got a Passat diesel at the moment and it pulls like a train  :icon_thumright:

The trailer won't be too heavy really though and we won't be travelling too far with it  :dontknow: so I'm not sure if the extra cost and usually miles on a diesel is worth bothering about as we only plan to keep the car for a year  :icon_thumright:

cheers guys,

the passat goes back in 3 months as it was my company car leaving us with the focus.

The Laguna is a 2001 but with only 44k miles on it so I had assumed that it'd be a decent buy, below book price and low miles etc

The car is for Diane to use for work but is to pull the trailer locally too

We only intend to keep a car for a year to then replace wih something newer  :icon_thumright:

Sounds like a decent enough car on the face of it mate , I was just voicing my " educated " opinion . Bear in mind that ALL Renault product is behind book and there is a good reason for that  [whistle] ( or numerous bad reasons  :crybaby2: ) Obviously a van is not going to be the way forward if Diane is to use it for work but I would honestly look at something German ( or Jap ) even if you have sacrifice age for reliability . Plus , if you are only keeping it for a year then you really want it to be worth something when you get rid of it  :dontknow:

If you really must go French then try and get hold of a Peugeot 406 HDi Estate  :icon_thumleft:

the 406 diesel looks like a good price  [whistle]

I'm not bothered by what car really as long as it looks tidy and will tow the burger van thing around once the passat goes back, it's only to last for a year and then sell on, well that's the plan.

Aye, Vectra's are ok not keen on Mondeo's not sure why really think they are just a bit like a balloon  [rofl]

Still looking just after any advice really as there are so many cars to look at  :dontknow:

I'll have a look at Vectra's in a minute but like I said there's no rush as I have the Passat for 3 months anyhow  :icon_thumright:

Thanks for all the advice guys  :occasion14:

as for the Beemer, does it have a towbar  [whistle]  [rofl] [rofl]
