Had an Audi 80 on a K plate, fitted a tow bar and it pulled all day long.  Was mostly shifting about half a ton of soil when working on the garden.  Brakes got a birt iffy towards the end of the day but it worked fine without any probs.

German engineering, not sure if there is any better to be honest for quality.

If it was me I would go Vectra also but out of the " french plop " it would have to be a 406 Hdi - Engine is bullet proof just need to watch the electrics . Renault is a definate no no . And , as for Shitroen , well , the less said the better  [whistle]

well you were luky on that one Andy, to many gobshyts about.

i had a laguna myself had same probs as you with tyre sensors, mine was a 1.9dci. 2 turbos, 1 intercooler and a head gasket

so i would stear clear of diesel ones.

rover 75 is a time bomb, apparantly the head gasket goes on the 1.8 because they stopped fitting the locating dowls for the
gasket. this caused it to ' twist' when the head is torqued down :-(. i know this  as a guy i know was a dsigner at rover before they switched the lights off so to speak!

i agree vectras are a good sound choice, how about a mondeo? octavias are a good motor aswell.
if ou get one of an old bloke you know it aint been abused!!!!

yes,

I had a Laguna a few years back and it was a good car but yes I did have a few anooying faults with it overall, like the ftailgate dampers failing 3 times in 3 years , a turbo pipe blew off, apparently common and a few other silly faults. The Passat has been brilliant, never missed a beat, only issue with it (102k miles now) is the from 80k it's always needed something doing out of line with the servicing likke discs/brake pads etc, still a great car too and 45mpg with 130bhp ain't bad  :icon_thumright:

I do fancy a vectra I must admit, unsure of the Mondeo's for some reason as much as I like my focus loads  :icon_scratch:

Aye, Skoda are great cars too  :icon_thumright:
