So, been rideing almost 2 years and finally got the bottle to do a trackday > Actually it`s an evening one with MSV at Snetterton in association with Superbike Mag.

Have always wanted todo one and thought that an evening session might be good to start with as, being an overweight mid-fortys body with a 16 year olds brain, a whole day might be to demanding.

Am taking my 6r J1, now this has got a Carbon Can Co race exhaust which I hope will come under the noise limit as have no real way of testing it.

So, anyone else going, or been on an MSV day. Any advice would be appreciated.

have fun and hey I'm 41 and only managed my first track day with this site last month after riding since I was 13    I did do one in 1990 but that was a long long time ago and a few short laps at Brands a few years back but never a full real trackday. The full day was brilliant 

Just take the day easy and don't chase anyone, go there with the mindset to enjoy yourself and you certainly will

not sure about snetterton for noise but cadwell had a 105db limit 2 weeks ago. mine read 102, a couple of loud ones there read 104 and 105.1 but he got let off.
mine is a yoshi slip on. 600's were tested to 7,000 rpm.

if i remember 104 is twice as loud as 102. your carbon can co is probably the same as mine 

im 46 and was aching a bit after cadwell but i havent been out much this year...... yet.

I am probably gonna get a lot of flack for what I am about to say,but here goes.,my first track day experience was not a good one,not the fault of anyone in particular,especially not GR who organised it,but it was my first ever track day,I was nervous and did not know how things went,I just found that as I was slow,people shooting past me,but also very close to me and intimidating,I think GR will bear me out on that,it almost appeared to be a 'race'.I was trying to learn the correct lines,speed,throttle control etc,but was impossible as was at times verging on dangerous.After watching 6 bikes 'binned' in the morning session alone,I decided to quit for the day.Anyway,later on this year I will be taking a cornering course,a wheelie course,and plan to hold my own on the next track day.

6 binned  were you in the novice with me and Glenn 

I did see one in that group (Jon's uncle I think it was) but that's it and overall loved it, I didn't race anyone at all and didn't feel like I was at risk or putting anyone at risk at all and likewise.

horses for course and all that, really sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it at all

Perhaps you was ok,but some were not,too close for comfort,I was in the 'novice' group,but some in that group were NOT novice,several people I spoke to remarked that there was some very fast riders in the 'novice' group,anyway,I counted 6 binned,2 went down in the s bend by the lakes alone,then one of ours went down,and a couple of others.

sorry if I scared you... I weren't trying to race I was just too confident for the novice group  I thought that they was going to move people up/down

but like R1NINJA says they were busy and didn't have the places.... I don't think it was your competance Dave just you over bearing fear of dropping your only mode of transport 

Like you said you used to kick my butt on the road... but now I am quite fast....

californian superbike school is the way forward I am sure I can learn alot from this too

It might have changed your experience if you'd grabbed one of the instructors to help with lines etc, but it is about trying to enjoy yourself and what you feel comfortable with and given your tyres were new it may have been playing on your mind too I think. There were some people in novice who could have moved up and vice versa as in Inters I was passing a couple of R1's round Gerrards and keeping up with them on the straight on my 6 and I wasn't that quick on the day.

Bartman the key to enjoying it is to try relax and concentrate on your own riding rather than everyone else's that way you will get some confidence from what your bike will actually do as your limits move a bit.

Bartman the key is relax...... take a deep breath  and soak up the first few laps size up the rest of the people in the group..... after you have set in then try to tidy your riding up progressively .... and remember its a trackday not a race and its meant to be fun

almost all of the guys in the group had yellow jackets on from what I saw in the first session so most were on their first trackday, including me.........    

I think even an experienced rider on a 10R on their first track day will chose 'novice' but yes the power of the bike does make it a bit of a missile The novice group isn't for novice riders specifically for for novice track riders in my opinion. I've ridden bikes for 28 years so I'm not a 'novice' rider but I am a 'novice' trackday rider  

There will always be a difference of riding confidence between riders on a track day, the main thing is not to put anyone else at risk and that was my intention from the start. I must admit that I did overtake a lot of people and not many overtook me but I was certainly not the fastest by a longshot and I didn't put anyone at risk in any way, well in my opinion.  

I would say that the guy on the Z900 was very fast    amazing how he handled that oldie at those speeds

The reason I went on the track day was to run at a reasonable / fast pace which I can't do on the road, it gave me exactly that  

Yes there were several crashes but I only saw one in the novice group (plus one bike that blew it's motor), most were in the intermediate from what I saw, thus the novice was safest I think

I don't think I was unsafe but I did overtake alot of people.... I was making sure I was doing the 6ft pass like the instructors said 

but its all down too confidence I spose

Got to admit I was in novice group as well, overtook people, but I always had in mind that I didnt want to scare people, by late under taking etc. I should have been moved up and was surprise by the my pace compared to others. This was only my second track day though so felt 'Novice' was the place for me, before I had actually done the circuit.  The previous month I did Oulton again novice group and my pace was so much slower than a lot of people. Its a pity you felt intimidated, and I understand what you mean. I felt the same when I did Oulton. Stick with it though and as suggested ask for a session with an instructor.

and we did have an instructor assigned to us for the day too
