Show some appreciation!
« on: May 30, 2007, 04:31:52 PM »

Folks please dont take this as a carpet accusation, as I'm sure it doesnt apply to the majority.

It's come to my attention over the past couple of months that when cage drivers make a concious effort to make our lives easier by pulling over to the left slightly, a lot of riders are simply going past like its expected.  Apart from the fact that they are making our lives easier by giving us more room to get passed, they are also showing us the fact that the're aware of our presence which I feel is the main point.

I've pulled over to the left countless times in the past month to have 75% of riders just boot past, although I always will give riders room, I can understand why some may say "soddem" and not bother anymore.
I know some people say that its too dangerous to wave etc, but come on folks even a gesture of a finger wave whilst still holding the bars goes a long way!

Lets pull the thumbs out and acknowledge bike friendly car drivers peeps.

I wave if the car moves over. I commute to work and the cars seem to get out the way for me pretty promptly. The only time I don't wave is if I'm pushing like hell and need two hands on the bars. I find if your friendly cars are more biker friendly. The ones I hate .... white van drivers they always try and stop you streaming.

Oh yeah dont get me wrong GR, obviously if ure hair arsing down a road and your passing wether they pull aside or not I agree, it would be dangerous to take your concentration off the road and bike.  What I'm refering to is the filtering/30mph country lane riding.  Sorry, should have been clearer on the first post.

If they've made an effort to pull to the left for me to get passed then I extend my left foot as a gesture.  :icon_thumright:

if your overtaking while hooning around the corner then you deserve to say good bye lol, at the end of the day drivers generaly only move over on straight bits of road and if people cant be arsed to lift a left hand to say thanks then drivers are going to get pissed off and not move over making you more angry for not moving

moving your hand to say thanks doesnt remove your concentration on the road as you move your hands about all the time while driving without worrying plus you move your feet without a loss of concentration while changing gears

over in france and spain they lift a foot off to show a thank you so a hand isnt going to hurt
