so after years of wanting to do it i finally did my first race last weekend at cadwell with no limits in the
metzeler newcomer 1000 was an amazing experience i got there on thursday to
set up as i was also booked on the test day on the friday my previous best lap round there was a 1m46.2 which on last years qualifying times would of put me about 6 from the back of the grid.
friday testday went well and by the end of the day i had my best time down to a 1m45.5 so was quite happy i missed the last session and had some brand new slicks fitted for qualifying the next morning.
so saturday morning and qualifying first amazingly i was no where near as nervous as i thought i would be went out did 2 steady laps on the new tyres then went for it and set a 1m45.389 had an easier lap then tryed for one more fast lap was another 1m45.3 but just slightly slower then chequred flag was out and that was it i qualified 21st out of 26
race 1
first ever race start i took it easy up to the first corner there was loads of room on the outside of coppice so i took the inveration and went round the outside of a few i settled into the race staying close to the group in front for about 4 laps before they began just edging away then i got passed on going into park by number 74 who ended up being the guy i battled all 4 races i stayed with him and a couple of laps later he ran wide into mansfield so i grabbed the place back was really tiring now and was happy to see the last lap flag but could hear 74 behind me so wanted a smooth last lap i messed up charlies 2 a bit and knew he would have a go into park i tried to be a bit more defensive but he just squezzed up the inside he was wide out of there and i thought about having a go into chris curve but it would of been tight crossed the line behind him to finish 20th best lap of 1m45.1 so had gone faster again.
race 2 3 and 4
all races followed the same kind of pattern got some places round the first corner of guys running slightly faster laps could hold them for a while but was tiring by midway every race and a few were getting back through but race 2 i finished 16th maneging to beat my friend number 74 this time race 3 i was 19th and race 4 16th and again just pipping mr 74 and by the end of the weekend my best laptime was a 1m44.279.
all in it was an amazing experiance and hopefully going to be doing donington round too.
