Beware of part prices
« on: July 17, 2016, 09:48:03 AM »

I have been looking for certain zx10r parts over the years and most i have found have been expensive if as new condition.
There are some parts im after now on ebay but they will not sell for sensible price so i thought id get some quotes from kawasaki and sure enough the parts i want are cheaper brand new from kawasaki!
A clock bracket for a zx10r gen5 is 42.99 + vat where as theres one on ebay for 85 pounds with 10 pound postage. And gen4 ones for 100 pounds delivered.
The moral of the story is some parts new are not as much as you would think. Check before you get ripped off.

It's crazy isn't it. The professional breakers seem to be the worst for inflated prices too, but if people are willing to pay more money for used parts then it's their own fault!
I've had 99p no reserve auctions go ballistic, some people assume that because it's ebay it must be cheap.

Yep, always pays to do your homework when buying parts. Never make the assumption that because its 'new genuine OE' it must be more expensive.  :icon_thumright:

wow that about the clock bracket is crazy - i actually bought a used clock bracket for my old zx6 for £50 in used fairly rough condition, and that was much cheaper than others on ebay. Sounds like i should have tried the dealer.

My dealer was telling me the other week about a company that sells some kind of tail unit body work kit for Er-6s or something like that. Basically either the US or European er6 comes with a much neater looking tail unit or some plastics. It's fairly easy to simply order the parts from the dealer to switch it over and make it looks pretty.

However, some company clocked on to it, buys up all the dealer parts from the other continent model. Then puts their badge on it and sells at DOUBLE the price calling it their aftermarket body kit or something. And they sell loads of them!

Well i know some sellers buy up new bikes and charge more for parts because people are unable to get them from elsewhere. I told the ebayer that it was way over priced and he sold it to me cheaper in the end. But some wont budge on prices so they are just doing it to make profit out of people who havnt been to kawasaki directly
