Hammy - sorry but got to pull you up on the issue of brake light.

I'm sure this has been done to death on the net but if the bike doesn't have front or rear position lamps, brake light is not required for MOT.
Have just logged on to CompII (mot system) and copy / pasted this for you.

Stop Lamp:
 This inspection applies to: all machines, except those which have neither front nor rear position lamps, or has such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are · only used during daylight hours, and · not used at times of seriously reduced visibility   If this situation occurs the machine presenter should be issued with a VT32 (advisory notice) recording the above

Is that new on the CompII then Prilla?
I know with the CRF there were no issues with indicators or front/rear lights but it HAD to have a working horn (powered or battery) AND a working brake light.
I'm only going by what I had to do for mine.
I know theres been all sorts of issues with the new system though.

No, it's always been the case but different testers interpret the rules differently. That wording has been like that for a long time, but at the end of the day, rightly or wrongly, if the tester deems you need something, your choice is to comply / appeal / take elsewhere. From experience, testers tend to have their pet hates / favourite issues etc. You are right about the horn, it doesn't state whether powered or battery required so either method is ok. Just must be a single tone and not affected by the operation of other electrical items.

Nothing has changed with CompII from the old version with regard to testing requirements, the problems were mainly system related but is getting better as the days pass.

This is the reply i got from honda after asking for a certificate of conformity;


Thank you for your recent application for a Certificate of Conformity (COC).

I have been unable to print your request, due to one of the following reasons, as the motorcycle is too old, is an off road bike, or it has been imported.

You can apply for a ‘Year of Manufacture.

Honda (UK) can issue a Year of Manufacture letter for motorcycles. We require the full VIN, name and address.  A Year of Manufacture letter will assist you with obtaining an age related registration from the DVLA - it cannot be used as proof of ownership.

There is a charge for this service of £30.00 we only can accept cheque or postal order in UK sterling made out to Honda UK and then posted to the following address:

Looking at the dates on the thread has it taken Honda UK nearly three months to reply

The supplying dealer when the bike was new should have a copy of the original COC, if they are still trading.

No i believe it was within 1 month. Ive just been preoccupied with xmas and buying my gen4

I have no idea who sold the bike new. It was in the 90s.

My apologies, I meant the importer, but that would still be Honda UK.
