sell, swap, downgrade or keep my gen4 racer
« on: November 03, 2015, 10:14:00 PM »

I've been thinking this season that I'm not really getting enough track time the last season or two to get the best out of me or the gen4 race bike and I'm dropping away from where I should be finishing. This is now meaning I'm not enjoying the racing as much. (I still race a cb500 which is ace fun so its not racing i've fallen out with).
Part of it may be that last winter I gave the bike a new bodykit and carbon water dipping shizzle so it looks mint and like a tart, I've not wanted to drop it (pathetic I know).
SO I've been thinking, what do I do with this conundrum. I still enjoy riding big bikes and I'm too chunky for a 400 so considering chopping in for a cheaper bike, may be a golden era, big twin, mini twin, 250 to race, or even just something a little different to just do the odd track day on like an rsv4.
Dunno what to do.

Man up? Maybe take some training courses?

Sounds to me like you've abandoned the golden financial rule of 'Don't race what you can't afford to walk away from'.

So either stop caring about how it looks or just ride it for fun...but then never get any better.  [wall]

I don't race or probably have the level of commitment you have (OP) but my gen 3 was/is my pride and joy owned from new but I have to say since I got into trackdays I have cleaned it less and maintained it, ridden it as its supposed to be ridden more, all on track of course!

As a result I have had much more pleasure in the riding and actually worry less over the cosmetics.

If you can't bring yourself to be like that with the gen4 then yep, I'd sell up and get something you are not worried about  :icon_thumright:
