Why are thumb brakes so expensive ???
HammyUK:
"Thumbrakes" are cheap - couple of bits of alloy machined with a brembo 11/13mm rear cylinder bolted to it.
The proper Thumb brakes are expensive because outside of full fat racing they aren't bought by anyone. So the volume of sales aren't there to bring the prices down.
All of the ones you see including Harris use a brembo rear master.
Brembo only do two types - one machined and one forged. Neither are close to £450....
As an example the Brembo I have is north of £2k to buy and it's order only as they don't hold them in stock. Same as the dual inlet rear caliper - made to order and £1.2k
A little hint.... look at Brembo 13mm clutch masters with a shorty lever ;-)
