Everyone's entitled to an opinion Glenn, it aint personal and Jon's bloke might be very selective on which bike he ahem, turns a blind eye to, but there are plenty of other places that don't for the sake of a few quid. That's why the D.O.T. are clamping down. Just a shame they don't bother to chase the feckers who dont even bother with an mot

yeah of course matey  :icon_thumright: opinion is fine.... I just don't want the posts to be taken out of context as the written word can so easily be mis interpreted ...

Just trying to keep this place a cool place to hang out you have to understand that buddy  :occasion14: ...

I think that you may of read a little too much into what Jon said about his MOT guy (but again thats mu opinion and could be wrong)

How would you feel if the Airbus that was taking you on holiday had not been given a proper before flight inspection ,cos the crew chief assumed that, as it was ok last flight it would do a trip no probs? That's just slapdash.  In my job you can be charged with manslaughter if an aircraft crashes and the part that caused it, was a bit you'd signed up as serviceable when clearly it wasn't. rant over :D

Im guna have my say here, at least as an mot tester i think that qualifies me to comment.
Now i dont test bikes only cars but i do use a bit of descretion, For example a crack in the windscreen which "BY THE BOOK" should fail, but when your sat in the car its not in your line of view as its low on the screen and your looking at the bonnet when you look at the crack. I wont ignore this but put it down as an advisory notice. Its not dangerous. Even my mate bought a car in with 2 bold tyres and said that hed got 2 new ones at home, he got told he was takin the piss and should av put them on first. But anything involving brakes tyres steering or any other part of ther car that is in any way dangerous then forget it, "FAIL"  My outlook on it is you have got to be fair to the owner but remember this car is out on the public highway and you are signing to say that it is safe to be there. Yes there are JOBSWORTHS out there who take the piss just to try and rip the unsuspecting public off but most of use are sensable people. And there are the others who just pass anything and your rite the new computorisation and the "trafic light sceme" for testing stations should get rid of those, "GREEN- GOOD TEST RECORD NO DISCAPLINERIES-leave you along the odd online test and a yearly visit."
"AMBER-NOT TOO BAD A RECORD THE ODD DISCREPANCY-twice yearly visits the odd incogneto VOSA test"
but if your catagorised as a "RED- NOT EVEN GOD CAN HELP YOU THEY WILL BE GUNING FOR YOU BIG TIME"

Not sure if this had been said already, but you can buy reflective sticky tape at good Motorshops and just stick to bottom off number plate.

I went to halford to find this and they were useless but got a reflector.....

anyway turns out I knew someone in the MOT place and they have sticky reflector in there workshop to pass MOT's  [rofl] [rofl]

I had an old Astra estate go into a local garage for an MOT.  Came out with a failure.


Windscreen washers not working,    (Doh, forgot to put water in them.  Ok fair enough)
Cracked number plate   :icon_scratch:

Took the car home and filled the washer resevoir up and then went to look at the number plate and fuck me if it wasn't one of those metal jobbies in perfect condition.

Took the car back and asked to speak to the tester.

He came through and I said, ok I've filled the water up and that's working, but can you tell me where the crack is in the number plate.

Of course he said, went to the car and said "Er, um, oh, but...........ah I was looking at the other car that was being MOT'd at the same time as your and that one had a cracked number plate.  No problems, I'll give you a pass now"

Turns out that I knew one of the mechanics there and saw him in the pub the next day and the garage had just had 50 brand new number plates in the same day as my MOT and he was trying to flog new ones on MOT failures.

I should have reported it but didn't bother.

yeah its always good going to someone you know.... the garage I went to is about the best around near me.... its a shame they aren't kawasaki though ... I would rather have a good job doen by a decent mechanic than a shite job done by someone that gives me a kawasaki stamp  :dontknow:

2 things first i would fill the washers and try again and pass (always goes down well with customers) and you cant fail a cracked number plate, part of has to be missing, illedegable or insecure and of cousre wrong size etc [naughty]
