Friendly Coppers
andicog:
So I'm out in Wales today at the Ponderossa , there are a fair few bikes including 2 police BMW's and a traffic car (hey, its a big car park), I'm parked near one of the BMW's and the friendly copper is showing a group of four leather suited bikers around Germany's finest, its all har har har and friendly , then mr friendly police man asks what the four guys are riding , they tell him and he asks where are they, the blokes point in the general direction of their bikes, mr friendly policeman asks again and the blokes point out their bikes over the other side of the car park, now suddenly mr not so friendly policeman tells the blokes that he'll "see them over there"
Mr not so friendly policeman and the other plod jump on their BMW's and head over (its a hard life . . ) , I collar one of the blokes and tell him he's about to be done for his small plate (as I was last year, £100 fine FFS ! ) sure thing three of them are written tickets and the bikes given a going over. Now it seems odd to me but out of all the cars in the car park none seem to be getting checked over, the traffic car BMW does seem to have a comfy bonnet though as the two occupants enjoy sitting on it taking in the sunshine and having a laugh.
I wondered as I left if its right to issue tickets for vehicles that are parked on a private cafe car park as surely that's not on the highway so how is an offence committed ?
Anyway a big well done to the welsh police for keeping us all safe and at the same time saving the tax payers petrol by sitting in a known bike meet car park and earning the government some more dosh from easy targets .
Rant over .

not an easy one to answer really, strictly speaking if its on private land and the guys have a legal size plate to put on bike before they leave, or can prove they arrived there via a transporter and not on the road and will be going home the same way, they might have a case to argue. assuming they didnt have either they dont have a case really, but hey i agree with the keeping roads safe if that copper hadnt have given them a ticket who knows what mayhem would have gone on on the way home, but we all know the laws and how pathetiic the plod can be ref small plates, loud cans, speeding, murdering etc etc etc. its far easier and cheaper just to leave standard plate on imo and risk it with a race can lol.....and speeding pmsl...

I think it's a personal thing with them against sports bike as they are associated with speed.......you don't see Harley riders being done for their earth shaking exhausts.

Makes me think back to the good old days
about 1999 when the new R1 arrived,
somebody I know, who is quite talented at making
the flip up numberplate,
boy did we have fun with those!!!
we could run a full standard plate .
so when parked, we had no hassle :icon_thumright:
