Hi...
« on: April 02, 2015, 05:15:20 PM »

Hey Everyone,

My name is Andy and i have just joined the ever growing list of ZX-10R owners. This past Saturday the wife and i paid a visit to Wheels in Peterborough to check out the new H2 in the flesh, and while there after taking quick test ride i decided to take the plunge and trade in my 9 month old Triumph Street Triple R in for something with fairings!! (well that is the reason that i gave the missus)

I have lived in Cambridge for the past 8 years, have been riding for 3 years, and this is my third bike. When i passed my test i swapped an old classic Scooby that i had been zooming around the countryside in for a couple of years for a '98 Suzuki GSXR 600 SRAD with a bloke i met on Ebay at a service station on the M6!! Yeah i know that is really dodgy, but everything worked out fine and i ended up keeping the gixxer for 2 years until i traded it in for the Triumph last July. Both the gixxer and street triple have been awesome bikes to learn on allowing me to cut my teeth and well and truly get the bug for bikes. But now is the time to move up to the big leagues.

I am also the proud owner of an '03 Honda ST1300 Pan European which i have had for the past 2 years that i take the wife and kids out on to keep them happy. For our wedding anniversary last year, my wife and i did our first touring holiday which saw us taking in some great roads over the course of a week all around Snowdon. This really helped to solidify us wanting to do more of this sort of thing together, so over the past few weeks i have been putting together a tour of the Scottish Highlands for the last week in June, which we are both super excited about

Which brings me onto the Ninja... (in a roundabout sort of way). So the bike itself is a 2012 registered 2011 ABS model in black, and looks as good as new with just 5000 miles on the clock. It has an Akrapovic can on it, R&G crash bungs & tail tidy. Just today i have ordered the single seat cowl, and some shorty brake levers to complete the look. The big day is tomorrow, and from looking at the weather it is gonna be crap down in my part of the world which is typical as we have had beautiful sunshine today.

I think that is about it for now, and when i get it home and all cleaned up i shall be sure to upload some pics for you all to see.

Welcome to the forum Andy.
I am also new to Ninja's and have bought a std 2008 ZX10R for track use.  Had a quick ride up and down the road and it felt OK so back in the garage off with fairing, radiator, exhaust.  Then removed the Cat's, ditched the standard can and pre-muffler and fitted a Pipewerx exhaust.  HEL brakelines, SBS DC pads, 30W oil in the steering damper, dubble bubble screen, engine oil change, Supercorsa tyres and I'll be ready for a spin.
Enjoy the 10.
Cheers,
Al

Welcome along. I am from North Wales myself so I can understand why you enjoyed riding around Snowdonia. IMO best roads in the country. I work near Bury St Edmonds and spend most of my time down there so if you ever fancy a ride out down there let me know  :icon_thumright:

Thanks for the kind and welcoming words guys. Al that sounds like you wanted a serious track toy, and i would love to see what these bad boys can do on the track for myself one day, as from the hours of YouTube clips i watched before taking the plunge, they are truly epic. Plus Shakey Byrne can really make them dance, i can only dream what that must feel like.

Greeny i agree Snowdonia is a truely special place, and now firmly has a permanent place in my heart. I am hoping the Scottish trip will be just as fulfilling, and yeah Bury St Edmunds is only half an hour up the road so we could arrange something, for when the better weather gets here on a Sunday morning or something :)

I picked the bike up yesterday and promptly named him Warrior. I had to take it steady on the way back to Cambridge as the roads had only just dried out, and he is currently shod with some brand new rubber. I did however open him up on a couple of occasions in 2nd and 3rd, when i found a suitable bit of bendy road between the A1 and St Ives. Man this thing is in another league to anything else i have ever previously ridden, and being geared the way it is you can just flick between 2nd and 3rd gear on the twisty stuff, and cover a hell of a lot of distance in a really short space of time, if you know what i mean ;)

Once you have these bikes above 8 or 9,000 rpm i am sure time slows down, and these bikes come alive. Accessing the bikes power reserves is effortless, once you have them in the right gear. From reading a shed load of reviews too before buying, the one thing that quite a few of the reviewers marked these bikes down on was that you had to treat them like a 600 as the real power is in the top half of the rev range, and not from the off. I kind of like this characteristic, as it makes the bike truly useable on a day to day basis, and not have to worry about it biting you when you least expect it.

I did use the Triumph and Gixxer as my daily commuters, and i am planning on using Warrior in this way also. I am only on the bike for about 5 - 10 mins between home and work, but from the ride in this morning, the bike got up to temp before i arrived at work, and was truly a pleasure flicking between lanes on the ride in, oh and the mini traffic light GP that i may have had with an idiot in a transit van this morning ;)

I am really looking forward in getting to know Warrior well over the next few months, and if i can do it with some other like minded people in the process then happy days. If anyone else lives in the Cambridge area, then get in touch and we can set something up.
