Biker down
« on: February 01, 2015, 05:43:47 PM »

Had an interesting one the other day....I can't remember exactly what happened but apparently I hit some mud and a pothole causing me to come off the bike then a 4x4 coming the other way clipped me and I ended up being run over with the jeep coming to rest on my hand......upshot is dislocated shoulder, cracked vertebrae, dislocated thumb, two open fractures in my hand a broken wrist and four broken ribs, was unsure if they could save my thumb but it appears they have by wiring it back onto my hand, apparently I was unconscious for 45 mins and it was all touch and go. 2 ops down at least one more to go in a few weeks then a lot of treatment and physio to get some movement back in my thumb and finger, my whole right hand looks a mess which is pleasant!
The accident seems to have been caused by the poor state of the road, a fact that had been reported to the council on a number of occasions over a long period of time by a lady who stayed with me throughout the whole drama, so the point of this long rambling message is to see if anyone else has successfully made a claim against the council for causing an accident to make sure I do everything I need to do

omg sorry to hear your horror story...i am sick to the back teeth of the state of the rds we motorcyclist  have to put up with...and to think all the money they rob from motorist from speed (safety) cough' cough' cameras. for doing 5mph over the limit and they say its unsafe to do that but let the rds go to pot. no pun intended. unsafe roads should be as much a crime as being slightly over the speed limit surly....it makes me savage...yes make a claim and sue the bastards...if the rd was in a unfit condition  hope you make a speedy recoverer.....GOOD LUCK......

I think I am lucky in that the lady who stayed with me has had a long ongoing documented feud with the council re the state of the roads, she took pics of my accident so I will have access to some 'evidence'....she told my mrs the council have repaired some holes with loose stones (!) and were aware of the other holes etc but had to prioritise repairs

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident chap, here's to a quick and full recovery. I don't use the word accident because if as you say the cause was down to the shit state of the road then the local council need an ass kicking. Document everything, no matter how minor it may seem. Having it all in print/photos will make life that much easier down the line and prevent things being forgotten about.  :icon_thumright:
