hope u ok after crashes, i wouldnt be thinking there was a flaw in the manufacturing of the frame if it broke in a crash. i know im just gonna have to make a decision but had read that frmes had cracked under " normal " use. its all over the net pics etc, but nobody commented how common it is , so thats why i thought joining and asking on here might shed some light on it . ( based on comments in here it doesnt seem mega common thanks ) are the gen 1s that much more crazy than gen 3s though ? im assuming all 10s are nuts though :)

So I rode all models now and I rode a really tricked up Gen 3 with larger rear sprocket

with all the changes it was close tot he animal that is the first gen... but didnt have the holy crap its gonna spit me off feel about it

the first gen has been the only one that has given me that feeling and if thats what you want then get a gen 1 (they look a bit better anyway  [rofl]) if I had the money I would get the latest one though because I have had enough of feeling like I am gonna die after every ride and the new one rides fast very easy but still giving you a good buzz

Cheers for that mate. Your answer has made me laugh lots . I take it that the gen 1 is really deserving of its rep. Just thought the gen 3 would be quicker as newer. Think Michael neeves from mcn said recently that the gen 1 is the ultimate. Light powerful and scary.

I had an 05 with over 20K on it and now have a gen 3. I've had no issues at all with either bike, but the gen 1 was the most exciting to ride and, for me, had the best ergos. I was truly  surprised at how much I liked that bike having read some (early) mixed reports. Good gen 1's are getting harder to find and a future classic that's for sure. I'd personally look for an 05 as I think some of the early teething issues were resolved with that model.

Cheers for that mate, was gonna look for an 05 for that reason. Trouble is I wana put some miles on it and like u said they're definitely a future classic. Think it,ll be a gen 1 though, just gotta have one.

I picked up Gen1 04 recently, 30k for good price/condition. There is a Generator repair bulletin (new spacers, washers) that I am going to do with should prevent any Generator issues and the valve clearance checks need doing. I havent seen any frame cracks. Already replaced front brake calipers (CBR1000RR 07) and brakes are much better. As long as you check history of the bike and keep on top of things, the engine should go on for much more.

Ooo gen 1. Do u mind me asking what u paid? Plus how much for the valve clearances just thought it would be quite involved on a gen 1. Ps what colour is she? And have u had ride? Thoughts cheers

Sorry late reply.
Paid 3k with 30K on clock, Akrapovic can, ohlins steering damper, service history.
Gen1 is a lovely bike and like others have said, try and get 05 if possible as some minor issues sorted ie) Generator.
Then get yourself a Rifeman 1/5 throttle insert (only about £20 from US). Just need to touch the throttle now and it takes off. Need to replace sprockets/chain so thinking adding a tooth on rear for a little bit extra lower power.
