HID lights
« on: March 05, 2014, 07:17:43 PM »

After fitting my servo eliminator I decided to move the PC3 into the space previously occupied by the servo, freeing up the bit of space back under the rear cowl. I've also recently fitted HID lights to both dip and main beam. It was a bit of a squeeze to get them in but fortunately the ballasts are small enough to fit without getting in the way. These are 6000K and they are fookin BRIGHT! shouldn't have any issues riding in the dark now

By the way I should point out you'd be better getting a set with the H7R lamps instead of the regular H7 lamps. The H7R's are reduced glare and give a better beam pattern compared to the H7's which scatter the light a bit which could cause dazzle.  B-)

Got a few photos taken this afternoon to hopefully show the HID lamps brightness. The photos are taken in bright sunlight so if you can allow for that you get an idea how bright and crisp they are. The light is obviously much whiter than even the best incandescent lamp I've ever used.

For starters these are just the parking lights on. I swapped the standard 501 lamps for 3W cree LED's. The two pictures show the difference in brightness between inside in normal light, and outside in bright sunlight.

Dip beam, photo taken level with the headlight.

Dip beam, photo taken just below headlight level.

Main beam, photo taken level with headlight.

I reckon the next generation of ZX10R will probably be using LED lighting technology like the latest Z1000, that seems to be the way things are going. I've tried LED replacement H7 lamps which are very bright and white like HID's but in a reflector headlight like this they scatter the light everywhere. Should be good in a projector headlight though.
