I have an Alpinestars suit which is OK, but earlier this year I tried on a Held suit and the difference was incredible. The Held is far more comfortable and flexible, allowing me to stand straight with my arms down my side, which you can't easily do in my 6 year old Alpinestars.

The comments above are noted and thank you all, reference the Held suit surely if its that comfortable it won't support so much in impact as i understand it the suit acts like a type of brace as well anti gravel rash? Also thickness of the leather plays a part in both functions??

The held suit uses 3 different types of skin, cow on high impact areas, kangaroo where movement is needed, and the salesman said there was some stingray skin in it. I have to say, because it was so flexible compared to the Alpinestars one, my first thoughts were would it offer the same protection in a crash, but they are German and we know how anal the Germans are about safety.

Ive got a Spyke Roo suit, the suit it pretty much skin tight all over, and yet doesn't compromise movement.
i've crashed on track and highsided in this suit and its still looks like new.

Pretty much all modern day suits that are made for racers will have all that's required, but you will find the more you spend the more protection you get,  its not just about knees, shoulders and elbows.
Some suits don't have any protection on the shins other than some foam, where most top end suits have a solid shin section,  and that could be the difference between a broken leg if you bike landed on you.

Also make sure there is enough room to get a proper chest and back protector in there too. I bought a good tight fitting astars suit last year and it's really too bloody tight with the protectors in!
