Mototune method makes more power no question, but what effect does it have on the gearbox, or the valves, or the main bearings, etc... His method is all about seating the rings, but there are a lot more parts in the motor that need to break in and settle.
When I got my new bike I kept it under 6k rpm for the first 50 miles, changed the oil and filter then mostly under 8k rpm for the next 500 miles, but running it upto 10k rpm every now and then. At 500 miles I did another oil/filter change, then just rode it. When I looked at my sump plug at the first 2 oil changes there wasn't a single metal shaving in there, so I'm happy that everything was good in the motor.
Do NOT:
- keep it at constant throttle and/or revs for extended periods of time (work up and down the box and rev range)
- labour the motor i.e. whack open the throttle at 20mph in 6th gear
