+1 on the front and -2/3 on the rear will leave you with the same gearing!
1 front tooth is roughly the same as 3 rear teeth.

you could just make the rear smaller but then you would have to reduce the length of chain by increasing the front & decreasing the rear you can keep the same length to a degree, the chain i have is up to about half adjustment so i can swap sprockets and use the same chain.

If you add one tooth on the front and take 2/3 off the rear YOU WILL NOT CHANGE THE GEARING !!?

You have to do one or the other or both but in greater differences!
You are going to have alter your chain or modify the swing arm to allow a massive amount of adjustment.

You don't seem to get that front/rear together are not going to do much unless you go outside of the ratios.
17/41 is standard
16/41 is the same as 17/44
18/41 is the same as 17/38
The difference is in the chain length due to rear sprocket circumference.
The overall gearing in the above ratios won't affect your top speed though as it hasn't changed.
As an example - 16t front will take your top speed from an indicated 189 to 176. Fact - this was done at Brunters on a 10R.
A 44t rear made it 177. Basically the same.
You will want something like an 18t front AND the rear around 36/37 but you will have a huge loss in acceleration.

So + 1 front giving me 18t & 36-37t rear which is - 8 or 9 should do it then! The acceleration i don't really care about as im not restricted to a strip or runway & they'll be coming back off afterwards.

200mph is a good target but finding somewhere to do it that is geared up with the right kit is your next problem. Straightliners run Top speed sessions at a couple of runways in the UK. They generaly run through a standing mile at all tracks and some will allow a 1.4 mile track. The timing gear is spot on and used for land speed events. As an example of how far out speedos can be I have run about 8 Hayabusas through the traps and all have indicated over 200mph on the clock only to record a true speed of between 182-189mph. My stock road bike runs through every time at 189.2 - 189.9mph on 155BHP so with the right gearing and a bit of fettling a good ZX10 should be able to get close to that.
If you're on Facebook look for straightliners and keep your eyes open for the top speed dates for next year. If anyone is interested I will post them on the forum when I get them through.
There are some noise limits though and I think 103dB is the limit but I will confirm this after the AGM in Feb 2014.

Cheers Phil, im not on facebook but will have a look. I am going down to BMW &AUDI's test section it'll only be the weather that stops me having a fair chance i think. My sat nav will be the best timing speed recording i have i do know that at 170 on my speedo the sat nav was recording 161 after that i dont know till i get there. What info do you have with custom sprocket manufactures, iv got a + 1 front with a -2 rear but an having difficulty getting a -3 with people quoting there not made by any one!

I get my sprockets from B&C, as far as I know they also supply blanks so if they can't machine the bolt holes and center for you it would give you an option if you know someone with a mill that could do it for you.

Here are the dates for top speed events run by 200mph, the events are run by Straightliners. The speeds are usualy measured over the standing mile as this seems to be the latest standard for both here and America. There is league table so those over 200 can see where they stand in the world rankings. Occasionaly there is enough braking distance to allow 1.4 miles.

Phil many thanks mate itt would be rude for me not to get In haha.

I am out in Germany and had a silly couple of hours today but not being a sunday there was a too much traffic and it wasn't on a autobahn Suitable one I fancy to get her wide open but I made some maps to suit the colder weather I did get her Uup to 180 on the sat nav. My hopes are for this sunday when I will be on appropriate Autobahn.

with the +1 front & -2 rear i couldn't get here to pull past the 180 which i got with standard sprocket sizes. I did a couple of runs with just the +1 front getting to 180 again without to much difficulty from the bike but road conditions and traffic played against me so it'll be a another crack after Xmas probably the weekend 28th-29th.

The best GPS recording I got was 184 the speedo appeared to stop. At 189 this was with the -2 sprocket on the rear & the bike as standard ie mirrors indicators & number plate its also worth noting she got a double bubble screen IV got it recorded on cam showing the speedo & sat nav readings when home I will get put up on u tube and post the link! I'm happy with 184 on a road spec 08!

I was wrong it actually achieved 185mph as recorded on the SAT NAV
