Zx10r race bike build.... the sequel
« on: October 01, 2013, 07:17:12 AM »

Yeah I know I had the blade all of 5mins, but it just didn't fit, so I sold it and bought a road bike to convert to track myself,

So here is what I picked up on Friday
Shes just been run in, and in mint condition, a perfect candidate for a race bike.

I spent Saturday taking all the road kit off the bike, boxed it all up so it doesn't get damaged.

then did a list of all the parts i'm gonna need/ want etc.

1st job,
re route the rectifier cables so that they reach the new bracket by the water pump, there are 2 ways of doing this, the easiest option is to lengthen the cable, but rather than cutting cables and soldering them, my self and Allan split the cables out of the main loom and re routed then under the throttle bodies.
this was probably the hardest job to and seemed to take ages to do

Now we have the airbox off, before putting it back on, it made sense to do all the small wiring mods and cable routing etc.
so next step was the pair valve removal as this wont be needed for a race bike
So first of, remove the sensor and hoses from the ram air tube

Now that is out, it makes for a perfect place to relocate the fuse box rather than inside the fairing.

Inside the ram air tube is a large valve that works with the pair valve, as this is no longer needed, that came out too to help get more air into the airbox

Next up
Pair valve, again, only there for emissions, and needs to blanked for Dyno work anyway, so ordered some blanking plates and a resistor so we don't get any fault lights, blanked off the vacuum hose to the throttle bodies as this is now redundant

picked some more parts today that also need to be fitted before the airbox can be fitted back on, and waiting for some other bits in the post.

Before i can fit the Bazzaz unit, it makes sense to make some room in the battery tray for it,
So, out with the exhaust servo, and then fit a servo buddy so no nasty warning lights appear

Update chaps

Only at little bit done today, as I'm still waiting on parts,
so cracked on with the wiring for the switch gear

as said earlier in the post, after thinking about it, id didn't see the point in having a bike with proper traction cntrll and deleting the switch, so I bought an STM switch for the traction and power.

then located the wires that connect direct in to the loom, cut the plug off, and then soldered the wires together and re sleeved them, so that it can just be plugged straight in

.

Then, me being as OCD as I am, I didn't like the switch not matching the starter switch, so bought another one for that too. so wired that in exactly the same as the TC/power switch, only this time I have left a short section of the Break light wires in place should they need to be re connected.

now both wired in and sleeved, they can be mounted on the left hand bar , as my thumb throttle fouls the starter switch until I get the new clip ons with longer tubes

A thumb throttle? Like on a jet ski?

Good choice of bike, in my opinion better than the blade.

Are you leaving the engine standard on this newer model?

Your old engine is going strong in mine.

Safe riding and happy building.

Thanks Brett

Gonna leave the engine stock on this for now, I may do some head work next year to get a bit more torque, but power is useless without a good set up, so gonna be sorting that first.#

that engine you have is a proper peach you have, how did you get on with the dyno work?

Lee,

I had a rite mare with the dyno.

I had it dyno,d with my decatted standard downpipes, link pipe and Leo vince gp pro can and it was only hitting 170s at the rear wheel, the reason for this was the exhaust wasn't allowing it to flow freely so therefore choking it. I also had an overfuel at 3k rpm which we thought was down to the exhaust restriction.
I then sourced a nice Leo vince full titanium system ex Tom Sykes from slingshot racing (similar to the one you had, different downpipe shape). It then went back on the dyno and had a massive overfuel at 6k. All the sensors were then checked to ensure they were within their operating range, which they were. It was then found that it was the firmware on the power commander but all sorted now so hopefully I,ll be pushing good figures now. It does feel a good strong engine though so very pleased, thanks.

sweet, that did sound like a hassle, bet you were worried for a while.

had some parts arrive last night so I can finish off all the bits under the airbox then carry on with the bazzaz and shifter

A little bit more done.
The pair valve resistor, blanking plates, air filter arrived in the post, so I could finish off with all the other bits under the airbox and then re install that.
So 1st up, fit the blanking plates and resistor

then block off the airbox with a nice cap,

next up
fit the HM shifer, and bazzaz loom

This is pretty easy to do, bit still took my time doing it so it was as neat as possible, 1 of my pet hates is untidy wiring... a tidy bike = a tidy mind.

On the top of the airbox, the injectors are neatly fitted, but to keep them nice and tidy, I drilled some small holes on the tabs for the loom so they can be cable tied in place, (not too tight tho, just enough to hold them in place)

Now that's fitted, run the remaining part of the looms alongside the oem loom, and tie into place.

Now, you remember when I removed the exhaust servo?
there are 2 lugs on the undertray that hold it in place, cut them off, flush with the tray, and then the bazzaz unit fits perfectly in its place

.

More parts are coming in the post.
got a great deal on a K-tech dds shock, and some other parts that i'll need for the build.
so keep watching chaps
